Smaller than the 10+ yr old units I replaced

Pretty easy to install as replacement units in a hardwired net of 4 smoke alarms and 2 combo CO and smoke detectors. Had to replace the mounting rings as these units are smaller than the old ones I replaced.

Better protection for my family.

Hope it is never needed

Got high marks from Consumer Report. It replaced an older comparable detector and was able to reuse the mount. Had to splice in a new connector, a trivial task. No way to prove that it will go off when needed.

USED smoke detectors sent

I ordered 7 identical smoke detectors and received used and damaged product beeping before i ever opened the shipping box >>>>>>I would not mind as much but come life saving devices REALLY BAD

Poor manufacturing quality

Purchased 6 First Alert products for our new home. The smoke detecters had a simple plastic wire harness to connect to the house wiring and plug in to the back of the unit. The alignment of the pins on the unit were different on all of the units. On several we could not seat the plug all the way until it clicked in without breaking the electrical connection, but had to only seat the plug about half way. Good photo electric replacement

Easy install, comes with base plate, good photoelectric replacement for the ionic detects that I had previously.

Right features, easy to install.

This smoke detector is dual sensor, hard-wired with battery backup. This one is well-reviewed in that category elsewhere on-line. I was replacing six smoke detectors that had reached the end of their useful life. The installation was simple; each one took less about five minutes to install and test.

Poor Quality Control

I replaced 11 Kidde units after 12 years of flawless operation due to age. In my first year - 3 of the 11 have gone bad, going off for no reason with false alarms and required replacement. First Alert wasn't helpful b/c they had no stock. Units have been cleaned, etc. Go elsewhere.

Open and missing pieces in several units purchased

Bought two smoke detectors, both appeared to be new, and both were missing differnect parts and were clearly returns put back on the shelf by Lowes. After calling and speaking to the store manager of the Butler NJ location, Cindy, I got the feeling that my discussion was not appreciated, that Lowes didn't recognize that people can die in a fire due to them putting tampered with and returned units back on the shelf, and that my time was not valued by Lowes.
