I never realized many people are only half protected without a dual ion and photo smoke alarm. So far no problems after installation.

Make sure it fits your home

Went to install in our home (built in 70s) our home hardwire did not fit this. Ended up using battery powered. Should work fine for newer homes.

Bought three of these for my basement pre-finish work. Electrical panels and hot water heaters (electric) are in basement, but there were not any smoke detectors. These detectors we're easy to install and connect to the rest of the detectors on the 1st and 2nd floors.

I went to Lowe’s to purchase a smoke alarm detector and was surprised at the large number detectors that was available. After looking over all the types and getting confused, a salesman came over to me and went over the types and recommended one that was best for my kitchen. I installed it and could not be more happy with Lowe’s and their helpful salesman recommendation.)

Sold in yellow BRK boxes in stores

Bought two because highly recommended by Consumer Reports and ready availability at my local Lowes. Wasted a few minutes looking at boxes of First Alert alarms before realizing the 3120B dual-sensor models are branded as BRK in yellow boxes. Was very happy to find they use AA batteries instead of 9V; however, the two Duracell batteries included with the alarm were loose in the box, marked OEM by Duracell, and undated. Easy install

I would have given it 5 stars except that I found that the indicator light to indicate it is receiving power was difficult to see. I just looked at again and you have to have just the correct viewing angle or else it appears that the green light is not lit. We have not had a fire since I put it up so it must be working

Installation was easy. Tested ok. I will let you know how well they worked if I should have a fire

12 months later they are failing.

Purchased 6 of these detectors in May of 2017 to replace all of my old ones through out the house. Have worked fine until a month ago when one gave a false alarm. Replaced that one with another 3120B. Within the last two weeks 2 more have failed. Fortunately we were home for all three failures so fire departments were not called out needlessly. Will be replacing them all with something else soon. Very disappointed.

First Alert 3120B Smoke Detector

Since it is recommended that smoke detectors be replaced every ten years and ours have been in place in our house for over thirty years I felt it was time to look for new ones.
