Best alarm for the buck

These run about 30 bucks a piece. Many consumer elaboration sites will confirm the photoelectric with ionizing catches the most fires but avoid combo units with carbon monoxide , as they don’t work as well for some reason. Installation was sinple( I replaced eight of these). The base was different from the ten year old ones , but was easy enough. I bought this one because it has dual sensors for different types of fires. Ended up buying 2 types - hardwired with battery backup, and battery only, for different locations in the house. Lowes had the best price on the hardwired version.

Updated with ease

I needed to replace my home's 20 year old alarms, midnight and 2 AM wakeups for false alarms. Fortunately these have the identical house wiring plug, that saved me time with the installation. I did have to mount the new baseplate which simply involves loosening some screws and installing the new plate. The alarm uses 2 AA batteries, much cheaper than 9V. Dual sensors on the alarm, great. Was on a price reduction, has all the features I wanted, easy installation and a good price compared to others.

They definitely work but...

Replaced all the old smoke alarms in the house. These are far more sensitive then the previous models we had in the house. Even the slightest hint of fumes and these go off.

Great detector

This detector is a great buy for the money. They link together and even lets you know if a battery is low, and which detector it is.

It's a smoke detector!

I bought this to replace a defective unit in my house. Swapped out with ease and new mount fit exactly where the current screws were located. Only drawback is the extra wire that links all of the detectors in the house only works if all the detectors are the same brand.

I just like them.

They seem to be of good quality and are working fine. I've always liked products I buy from Lowe's.

Easy to install. Excellent directions. Good value, detecting both types of smoke sources, which makes it more economical in the end. Most detectors only react to one of the sources, not both!!

Easy to install and seems to be of good quality. The box did not have any screws for installation, which was very irritating. Be prepared.

Overall coverage

This alarm is easy to install. We replaced all of our alarms with this product. Hard to find an alarm that works for both kinds of fire. Highly recommend.

Manufacturing Defect in Some Units

I purchased several of these and found a solder "tail" on the tops of the wire pigtail connector pins, which would not allow the pigtail to be plugged into the connector. I had to use a small soldering iron to clean the terminals, while cleaning the iron constantly on a wet sponge. It's hard to say how the manuafacturing process would leave solder on the terminals. good in kitche area

purchased 2 of these for our duplex due to the fact that other fire alarms were very sensitive anytime something was cooked. Very frustrating a friend of mine told me about these so I purchased them and I am very happy with them. No more alarms going off for something like the toaster. Would recommend these to anyone who has this issue.

False alarms, on over half of those purchased

Want to go crazy? Then get these, and let your kids become completely freaked out by smoke detectors and be delighted to wake up a half dozen times during the middle of the night to spend time finding the alarm that has false alarmed. I replaced units, and then had those also start false alarming! I feel terrible, having blasted my kids eardrums out on you many occasions.
