Short comings of heat tape
The heating element was to long. With all the tankless water heaters mounted on the house exterior in this area. How about a shorter heat tape.

Would Not RecommendI spent 5 hours installing this tape in our crawl space using two 30ft pieces and then covering it in insulation. The plug glows to let you know it has power which is great however, after one week of use, we came back down to our vacation home to find the pipes frozen and the tape glowing. When I removed the insulation to put my hand on the pipe and tape, they were ice cold. The sensors are making direct contact with the pipe, but something is amiss. Very disappointed by the money and time waste...
