Did not work well

I read the directions and tried this several times. It did not sharpen the bits, only wore them down and made them cut less. I am not impressed and may be doing something wrong but have not been able to figure out anything wrong yet. I have read over the directions several times and it’s seems I am correct.

I often find myself sharpening bits by hand but don't always get great results. With the Drill Dr. results are reliable. I tried to drill through a hardened steel mower blade but couldn't get through until I sharpened the bit with the Drill Dr. Bit then cut well and I got through despite my underpowered press. When sharpening remember to hold the guide against the steel pin as you turn the guide.

Great if you don't know how to sharpen drill bits

I grow up with a grandfather that was a blacksmith. He trained me how to sharpen a drill bit and I have been doing it like that ever since. When I saw this sharpener I was curious how well it could sharpen a drill bit. I took one of my drill bits and drilled a hole in a piece of iron. Drill bit sharpener will definitely extend the life of your bits and save you some money in the long run. The instructions teach you a little about the differences with drill bit types and has instructions on how to sharpen each type. Pretty much anyone can use this tool.

Makes Sharpening Drill Bits Much Easier

A machinist friend showed my how to sharpen bits on a bench grinder. It required a lot of skill and experience to do it right. The Drill Doctor takes all that out of the process and does an excellent job of getting the proper shape on the cutting edges of a bit. I look forward to using my bits a lot longer now that I can re-sharpen them and don't have to just get new ones!

I have a lot of old dull drill bits, so I was excited to try this out. Be sure to read the instructions to do it right. It's pretty specific about how to set it up, but once it's setup for a particular bit, the sharpening process is very straightforward. A Pro's Must Have Toy or Tool!

The instruction booklet is written very well and details how to use the device based on the type of drill bits that are in need of sharpening. However, be sure to read the instructions thoroughly! This could be the case where if missed or misinterpreted the instruction of aligning the chuck to the 118 degree mark and first attempt can result in a dissapointment. The Drill Doctor did a good job sharpening old drill bits. Took a dull 1/2" bit and sharpened it, and it cut through a 1/4" piece of steel and the bit still looked sharp afterwards. It was difficult to get the camera to focus on the bit edge to show the difference between dull and sharp. The test results definitely proved it sharpened. The instructions are a bit confusing. The finished bit didn't align the same as the instructions said it should look. It did sharpen well. Having to put bit in chuck and adjust it then move it to other side to sharpen an be precise on a moveable piece is inefficient.

Years ago I had something very similar to this and forgot how handy these things actually are. I recommend looking up a few YouTube videos if the instructions aren't quite clear to you. Once you get the hang of how to set the drill bits in there you will find this Drill Doctor extremely useful especially if you use drill bits a lot (which I do). Wow! A really nifty addition to my shop that I wouldn't have looked at twice. Really does a great job sharpening the tips of my drill bits. Very convenient and easy to use. I just sharpened a bunch of my small (5/64 - 5/16") bits in just a couple of minutes. Works well on standard 118° and split point tips.
