What Customers Are Saying
The Delta bench grinder is a reasonably priced tool with variable speed control and sufficient power for tough grinding tasks. However, the included grinding wheels are often poor quality and require replacement or balancing. Assembly can be confusing, and some units have reported durability and reliability issues. While the grinder provides good value overall, buyers may need to address quality control concerns and be prepared to potentially replace components.

Would Not RecommendAfter putting the grinder together (very poor assembly instructions) I took out the safety plug and turned on the grinder. It did not come on, I put a light bulb in and the light worked. Must be a faulty switch. Do the Chinese check these things after they put them together??
Wheel wobble- don't buy.
Would Not RecommendI bought this grinder and the left wheel wobbled horribly. I would say it wobbled by about 1/4". Very poor quality control. I returned it the next day. Do yourself a favor and get a different grinder. This one is just not worth it.
Smooth running..
Would RecommendI bought the Delta 3 days ago, very smooth and quite Zero vibration, dont even bolt it down to bench. use to sharpen my lathe tools etc. fast up to speed although I use VSD on slow to sharpen tools. I will get a 120 grit wheel for sharpening later But use the 80 grit for now works fine.slow speed doesnt heat up the tools..plenty of power also very pleased with the purchase....
Instructions are horrible.
Would RecommendNow, as a fifty something dad who has assembled more kids toys and shop tools over the years, I have to say that the set instructions on this tool are the absolute worst I have ever seen. The text is down right wrong and the pictures are so low res, they are worthless. I found the manual online and went to blowup the image and they are just as bad.
Excellent Grinder for the price
Would RecommendI agreed with "good grinder" comments below. I purchased this grinder for the same purpose. The only complaint I have is don't have it shipped. Both the manufacturer (Delta) and Lowe's don't know how to pack an item that is 40 lbs in weight toss around in a box of Styrofoam and air pillows. Both packing methods failed, luckily I had only a scratched eye shield and a nicked tool rest. There is no motor brake so the grinder runs quite a while when turned off. The base is cast which makes it heavy ...
Read this one.
Not sure why there are bad reviews. I use it to sharpen my Bosch chisels and it works perfect on the lowest setting. Quiet motor is the most quiet at top speed. Haven't bolted it to the bench yet because I didn't need to. Everything seems balanced. Took 10 minutes to assemble. So far so good.
Delta Grinder
Would Not Recommend20 years ago i bought a cheap Harbor Freight 8" grinder. I gave it away when I bought this one. Big mistake! The vibration is terrible, the no tool for changing wheels sucks, the included wheels wobble on their bushings. I'm going to convert this to a razor sharp system and replace it with a DeWalt.
Regret purchase.
Would Not RecommendI bought one of these at the local store. As I was still in the process of setting up my shop, it was some time before I uncrated the grinder. By then the exchange period had expired. The grinder has so much vibration that I had to mount it to a pedestal and bolt it to the floor. Changing the wheels did little to reduce the vibration. There is no vibration with no wheels on it so I know the arbor isn't bent. I think the no tools method of attaching the wheels is at fault.
good grinder, did'nt drag down even with considerable pressure on stone. rests stay in place.

Need a wire wheel besides grinding, don't buy this
Would RecommendHad to replace my grinder and was interested in the variable speed of this one. Besides grinding I also need a wire brush wheel for removing rust and paint from small parts. This does not accept a wire wheel, the shaft is to long. The grinding wheels are 1 inch thick and the wire wheel is only about 1/4 inch. You need something to take up the extra space. I contacted Delta to see if they sold adapters or bushings, evidently they do not, since I haven't received an answer from my e-mail. Tried ca...
Almost very good...
Would RecommendThe machine had minimal vibration. Examination revealed that the outside flanges that secure the grinding wheel can contribute to considerable vibration. The flange id is the same as the shaft id where the wheels mount, but it actually resides on the threaded portion that is threaded, which is smaller. The result is that it can be considerably off center, causing an imbalance that results in vibration. The tool rests are not square to the grinding wheel. This can be corrected to a degree with wa...

Delta Grinder is Excelent Grinder for the Price
Would RecommendGrinder was purchased to sharpen Wood Turning Tools. I like the variable speed which allows me to set the speed low enough not to overheat the cutting tool. Only downside is, I needed to mount the bottom rubber feet under a board rather than under the grinder itself. I could not see an easy way to do this so I put the rubber feet back on the grinder itself. Then had to bolt the plate to my work table. Changed out the right wheel with an 8" Aluminum Oxide wheel. Gives a great sharpness to my tool...

A Surprise for the Price
Would RecommendWhen I purchased this Delta Bench Grinder, I thought I was buying a run of the mill tool because of the price. And being a bench grinder, I didn't think I needed a Cadillac for the frequency of use this tool will have in my shop. The first time I turned it on, I was very surprised at how quiet and smooth it was. The variable speed pot that is included with it, lets you dial in speeds easily and efficiently. The included water trough came in handy as well, since I bought it to grind the ends of c...

Really nice multispeed grinder
Would RecommendI bought this to replace a Harbor Freight grinder which had a nasty vibration since I do a fair amount of woodturning and needed something slower than the 3550 RPM models. The slower setting of this grinder with a Norton Aluminum Oxide wheel was the perfect combination. I like how it came with a dressing tool as well as a light.

Great purchase
Would RecommendI do a lot of woodcrafting and need to keep things clean, chisels sharp, screwdrivers in shape, and many other things around the craft shop. I checked into several other bench grinders before deciding on this one. I have been familiar with the Delta name for many years and have used and have always been happy with the performance of the Delta brand, so was somewhat biased in that due to the trust that I have in Delta. It was packed nice and everything was there. I had no problems following the a...

Excellent for the price
Would RecommendThis grinder gets the job done. It has some nice features unexpected at this price point, including a rheostat to control the speed and a work light.
Good all around grinder
Would RecommendGood price for a grinder with speed control and a work light. I looked around for a bench grinder and this was the best for the price. Has more features than most that I look at. Wish it had quick change option for changing the wheels. You have to remove several screws to change the wheel. Only important if you use buffing and wire wheels, so you would have to change between them.
