Full of gnats, roots gone

I purchased this for a gift. I left it on the table and by the next morning it was full of flying gnats. I attempted to repot it and found it no roots. What a waste of money, and could have destroyed all the other plants in my house.

The medium used will lead to death of this plant.

I got this with the intention of gifting it to a friend, however the tree began to die within three days of purchase. I’m an avid bonsai tree collector and unfortunately was unable to save this tree. The growth medium was so tight, all peat moss, that the roots were rotted due to not being able to drain. I think this tree was in the store for too long of a period. I think Lowe’s so consider repotting these or collaborating with the vender to ensure a medium that does not collect so much moistu...

I got this on clearance and that’s the only way I felt safe with a bonsai since they’ve been known to have particular care. So far, so good. These are not beginner plants and therefore need a lot of attention. But this clearance baby was a great find.

So far very healthy and leaves are growing. We shall see how long that continues as I may not have the most optimal space for it after the weather changes. Waiting to trim for now.
