Do you have a room that looks tired and in need of an update? Paint is an affordable and easy way to dramatically transform a space. From open living spaces to nurseries, we'll show you six rooms you can paint now.

Dining room with an aqua stripe, entryway with teal walls and a pink, orange and yellow living room.

Dining Room

Dining room with white walls and a wide stripe of aqua paint running from the ceiling to the floor.

The wide stripe of sea foam green (Valspar® Lake Breeze) running from the ceiling to the floor of this dining room transformed this space from boring to bold. We added accessories, such as a blue-green lamp and a striking round mirror over the console table, to tie it altogether.

Entryway

An entryway with teal walls, a black and white staircase and a console table with a mirror.

It's amazing what a little color can do. A simple white entryway got a major face-lift with this gorgeous peacock color called Shaded Lake by Valspar®. Further upping the ante, we painted the stair treads a high-gloss black to match the posts.

We added a console table, so there's an easy place to drop keys and sunglasses at the door. A brass mirror and sconces provide the finishing touches.

Living Room

A boho-chic living room with wooden beams, yellow curtains, terra cotta walls and a Moroccan rug.

This boho-chic living room is equal parts cheerful and cozy. When there's a room that's flooded with light like this one, it's possible to take risks with darker colors. In this case, a deep terra cotta called Cinnamon Cake by Valspar® was used as an accent to flank the bookcases and surround the fireplace.

Then there were hints of tropical colors used throughout that are unexpected and work well in the space. The addition of sunny yellow floor-to-ceiling curtains and a fuchsia floor pillow are bright spots that are grounded with neutrals like the cream sofa, wicker chairs and a black and white Moroccan rug.

Nursery

A nursery with light blue walls, a rainbow painted behind a white crib and soft white lighting.

The effects of color on the psyche are well-documented. As you're trying to plan for your little one's arrival, it's good to keep color in mind. In this case, the nursery is painted a light blue, which is known to be a peaceful color that can make a room appear bright and refreshing. The addition of the pastel rainbow behind the crib would delight baby girls or boys alike.

And the added accessories create the perfect ambiance for a baby's room. Baskets filled with toys and a faux fur rug provides a soft place to play. Add a dimmer to this contemporary white pendant light to ensure that a resting baby goes undisturbed.

Home Office

A home office with half white and half pale pink walls with a desk and a Moroccan rug.

As the number of people working from home has increased, an office has become more important than ever. To ensure that you're comfortable and productive, there are several factors at play and color is one of them.

In this case, we left the top off-white and added a soft, feminine pastel on the bottom half using Valspar® Barely Pink. The light pastel is soothing to the eyes and keeps the room looking fresh and bright.

Task and overhead lighting prevent eye strain, while a light wood chair and desk provides a comfy working spot. Don't forget the basket of blankets that'll ward off the chill on cooler days.

Open Concept Living Space

An open concept living and dining space with wood beams, light furniture and mauve walls.

With open living spaces more popular than ever, it can be challenging to get the flow between the kitchen and living room just right. A good paint color can unify the space, ensuring it doesn't feel choppy or disjointed.

In this case, we used a deep, dusty pink called Fruitwood by Valspar® to define the living space and highlight the warm wooden beams. Then we used the same neutral colors and wood tones throughout the dining, kitchen and living room.
