How to Install Peel-and-Stick Moulding

For this how-to, we used a moulding kit that comes with three top panels, three middle panels and three bottom panels. Our wall measurements are 70.5 inches high by 105 inches wide.

Moving left to right, we spaced the top frames equally apart and repeated the same pattern for the center and bottom panels. The goal is to have a symmetrical layout. Our kit also included a worksheet where you can note your measurements and see additional hanging ideas.

First, measure the width and height of your wall. Then determine the horizontal and vertical spacing with this formula.

Horizontal Spacing
Wall height - Frames ÷ Number of Spaces = Individual Horizontal Space

Vertical Spacing
Wall Width - Frames ÷ Number of Spaces = Individual Space

Using a pencil or painters tape, mark the inside and outside edges of the moulding. This will make it easier to install the frames.

Starting on the left, you'll want to install one frame at a time. Remove the adhesive backing from the first frame. Holding the frame at a 45° angle with both hands, carefully apply the first edge. Slowly work your way down to the three remaining sides, using your pencil marks or painters tape as a guide.

Once the frame is in place, press down firmly on each side. Repeat these steps for the remaining frames.

For a finished edge, caulk the inside and outside of the frames. This way you won't have gaps between the frame and the wall. Let the caulk dry before painting.

You can leave the frames white if you'd like, but for this project we wanted a uniform look. Using a small roller or a brush, paint the frames. We used this beautiful purple pink called Thistle by HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams.
