  • TSP (trisodium phosphate) multipurpose heavy-duty cleaner
  • Painter’s tape


  • Valspar Duramax interior satin, quart: Sea Tickle, #5005-7B
  • Bondo Epoxy patching compound (#40188)

Step 1

Remove the door from the frame. Tape off or remove the door hardware. Tape off any areas you want to protect from paint, such as the sides, a window, or the bottom edge and seal of the door.

Step 2

Lightly sand the door to prep the surface and help the paint to adhere. Fill any holes or small dents with Bondo. Wash the door with a household cleaner or TSP.

Step 3

Prime any patched areas. Use a roller on flat surfaces and brushes for moulding. Choose a semigloss or gloss paint for the best durability. Let dry, and repeat with a second coat.
