Tips for Gardening in Small Spaces

Brought to you by Lowe's Creative Ideas

Lowe's gardening expert Erika Vetrini shares helpful tips on how to maximize your gardening space with ideas such as vertical gardening, using bright plants, adding raised garden beds or decorating window boxes.

When it comes to small spaces, it doesn't mean you can't have your own garden, it just means you need to be a little creative with your small space. Using containers, raised beds, window baskets or hanging baskets you can still get the garden you've always dreamed of.

Containers are very multifunctional. You can grow herbs, shrubs, flowers and trees in them. Anything you can raise in the ground, you can raise in a container. They add texture, color and life into a small space. Raised beds are another great option. You can grow any types of flowers, herbs and shrubs in these. They are great because they are raised, meaning less maintenance and strain on your back!

A helpful tip is to add a bright dash of intense vibrant color in your landscape. It will make any landscape or yard look bigger. Ornamental grass is another great way to add height to your landscaping, and it is very low maintenance.

Window boxes are small mini gardens that can hang, well outside your window. Because there is limited space, hers or flowers are typically only planted in this space. Do make sure that these get watered everyday in the summer because of the tiny space, they will need more watering.
