What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this primer for exceptional stain and odor blocking, rapid drying, and reliable adhesion on challenging surfaces. Most highlight its unmatched ability to seal water stains, pine knots, smoke odors, and pet odors—often with just one coat. Reviewers consistently report fast recoating times and excellent coverage on knotty pine, veneer, MDF, and damaged drywall. Many describe it as their trusted go-to solution after other primers failed. A few mention strong alcohol odor and thin consistency requiring careful cleanup, but these minor drawbacks are widely accepted as necessary trade-offs for superior performance.

Would RecommendI used it to prepare PVC trim and breadboard before painting and I also used it cover some stubborn knotholes in some of my house trim. It seems to work as primer on PVC and a couple knotholes needed a second coat but they look promising.

Good stain blocker
Would RecommendI’ve been repainting cabinets that are very old, have been painted a lot previously, and have stains that won’t sand or wash out, this has helped to cover them.

“Once you go shellack, you won’t go back”
Would RecommendInteresting to note that this product works and is the ONLY true primer I have found that actually seals knots preventing tannin bleeds! However, YOU USE DENATURED ALCOHOL for clean up. Either use a throw away foam brush OR buy “Fuel” labeled in Klein Strip product assortment This fuel is only available in the store and not even posted online. CA has outlawed the product. Alkaline ammonia also can do the job but it is not as efficient if you’re using a brush. In others words, no liberal sp...

No Sanding on Dark Java Stain...Really!
Would RecommendJust finished my dark Java stained staircase. Thought I would try the shellac primer since I did not want to sand the entire stair area. 2-3 coats of these primer (No Sanding) and the dark stained was gone...ready for paint. Awesome Primer indeed!

Zin Bin's the Bomb !
Would RecommendThis product covered my old dark brown smoke stained paneling from the sixties in one coat. I applied two coats of good quality white paint on top and no brown showed thru at all. I really didn't have to put a second coat but I always do whe changing colors. I did the living room first using Kilz 2 and ended up having to use numerous coats of paint. I'll never do that again ! I'm not getting paid for this info. Zin Bin is the bomb !

Blocks knot and resin stains
Would RecommendThe best thing about this primer is: it completely blocks stains from knots & resin from bleeding thru the painted finish. It dries quickly & so it takes a little practice when applying it. I don’t sand it but you can. It’s a shellac primer. I use denatured alcohol to keep it thin enough when applying. Then I brush oil base enamel finish on. The end result is very nice.

Tannin
I bought this to use as primer on the ceiling in my older home. I have struggled with painting things like the window trim, but most recently the ceiling in my living room. We tore down some old ceiling tile and was surprised at how the ceiling looked! I expected it to be in bad shape but it wasn't. But it was totally Brown!! I tried Kilz 2, then paint but it all turned brown as well. so with some research I learned about tannin. I decided to try this even though I thought it was expensive. I w...
