Well balanced and easy to swing at 19 oz. Put 15 sheets of OSB siding up using 4x4 nailing pattern. After three hours, my hand and shoulder felt fine. I could not have done it with a standard 24 oz swinger.

Best hammer for the money

I work construction 6 to 7 days a week and own quite a few quality hammers. The axe handle doesn't wear ones wrist out near as bad as a straight handle and transfers energy with no problem. For framing I pick this up twice as often as a estwing or any other for that matter . The magnetic nail starter is handy as heck too. It may not be a $200 stiletto but for the money it can't be beat.

Perfect weight and handle length !

Was looking around for this hammer and finnally found it. The waffle faced 19oz vaughan framer did not suit my needs, but this one hits the sweet spot. 14" thick handle, magnetic nail starter, and a large faced 16oz with a big cheek for side nailing. I own several vaughan hammers and this is an excellent addition to the collection. Dare say its sexy and I am very pleased that Lowes now carries this model ! May get another just to have one in the garage.

Perfect trim hammer or all around hammer. The problem with most 16 oz. hammers is that the strike face is too small, and the harder you swing it the less chance you have of hitting the nail. Regular California Framers fixed that problem with their huge strike face, but of course you can't use that milled face for anything except framing. This hammer, while affordable, is made by Vaughn, a company which is apparently still owned and operated by the founding family. It is made in Illnois and of above average quality. The 19 oz. model in the "California" design affords higher leverage and striking force in a manageable size. The wooden handle is also preferable to all steel hammers for reducing shock, a plus if one spends an entire day or more actually framing. balanced perfectly to not make your arm extremely tired and hits like a bigger heavier hammer for any type of use. especially for SS barbed staples. makes quick work. this is my 2nd Vaughn hammer. And I will be a lifelong buyer.

I drive close to 25 lbs of double head nails in 2 days. this hammer is perfect. susy home maker may not like the milled face because it may scratch up her drywall but carpenters by trade ought to love the vaughan

This hammer is a very outstanding tool. With the magnetic nail holder one can set and sink the nail using one hand.

Vaughan 23oz Hickory Framer

Wow......great hammer. My lighter framer is the Dalluge 20 oz Decking hammer......but when I need a little more power.....this one is always in the bag. As expected from Vaughan.......great balance......very comfortable......and great looking. What I like most is the shape of the head. The face keeps it nice and stable, and the sweeping claws are perfect for Demo, as well as prying apart boards. Vaughan seems to have the most comfortable shaped handles too........so no matter where you grab it.....

Basic California Framer, could have more features.

I'll start off by saying I have extremely limited framing experience. I am building a 16x12 shed and needed something a little more efficient than was in my toolbox. This is a fairly light weight steel head hammer with a nice, simple axe handle. It swings well and hits solidly. It is a very basic hammer. Best framer I've ever used

I know a lot of people think a hammer is just to bang in nails etc. But believe me a good quality hammer makes a world of difference. I purchased this framer to replace a very old Estwing leather handle 22 oz. framing hammer. The hatchet style handle aids in accuracy and even though it is a 23 oz. hammer I don't feel fatigued using it. great hammer

I bought this hammer a couple of weeks ago and I've used it already for framing projects and it can handle the job. Its a good weight its not to cumbersome, very easy to use. Probably the best wooden handled hammer that I have used, would definitely recommend to a friend or anyone that does a lot of framing. The only thing that I do not like about it is it has a milled face as apposed to a smooth face, but that's the only thing thing I didn't like about the hammer.

USA-made hammer to pound heck out of foreign nails

I was looking for a claw hammer on Lowe's website and immediately added the Vaughn 23oz. because it is American made. It feels good and balanced in the hand and makes you eager to whack things -which it does very decisively and very well! I am sure the milled nailing surface has much to do with it.
