Ratings & Reviews for Utilitech 240 -Degree White Wire-in Replacement Motion sensor and light sensor
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers praise the sensor's straightforward installation and reliable performance as a direct replacement for failed units, with many noting improved angle adjustments and seamless operation with incandescent and dimmable LED bulbs. However, a significant portion report critical compatibility issues with standard LED bulbs, experiencing flickering or complete failure. Several also note the actual motion detection range falls short of advertised specifications, activating only within 10-15 feet rather than the claimed 70-75 feet. Despite these drawbacks, most customers consider it a worthwhile replacement for aging sensors.

Would RecommendProduct was EXACTLY what I needed, Old Sensor was cracked and worked only intermitently, actual lighting was great with side hook up to Car Port. Bought 4 new 90 watt LED bulbs for everything and WOW the lighting worked like NEW.. The part was the exact thing I needed...

Instructions
Would RecommendI give this 3 stars. I would give it a higher rating but the operating instructions are very difficult to read and understand. There are instructions in 3 different languages, I think. There are instructions with "NO" punctuation to separate one language from the other. It goes from English to French to Spanish. Then back to English, French and Spanish and on and on. It would be nice if the instructions were written in English ad after all of the English instructions it would move on to French, ...
No range
Would Not RecommendDescribed as having up to 70 ft. range. Even on the highest setting it only detects motion within about 10 ft. Not very useful.
If motion light fails, it's probably the sensor
Would RecommendEasy to install. Fraction of the cost of a new light fixture.

Good but with some shortcomings
Would RecommendFor the most part this gizmo works fine. However .. 1 - If you use it with LED lamps instead of incandescent lamps they will not go completely out. This is because they use semiconductors to control the light(s) rather than a relay. 2 - If you use it to control a relay rather than a light you will not get full line voltage on the relay as it doesn't draw enough current. You'll have to parallel the relay with a lower resistance, high wattage resistor. This is because they use semiconductors ...
Does not perform as advertised
Would Not RecommendPackaging claims it detects motion up to 70 feet away, but I have it set on high sensitivity and it does not switch on until I approach within 10-15 feet. Totally inadequate, or else I got a defective product.

Works best with non-dimmable LED lights for me.
Would RecommendAbility to use with LED floodlights. One GE Classic dimmable LED floodlight functioned as expected. However when using 2 GE Classic dimmable LED lights with one unit, 1 LED light would begin to flicker. Switching lamps caused the other LED to flicker. Using 2 GE Basic non-dimmable LED bulbs with one unit seems to function appropriately without the Dusk-To-Dawn dimming feature (which I was not planning to use). I will try a different dimmable LED model or brand in the future to see if Dusk-To-Daw...

No longevity
Would Not RecommendThe first one that I bought lasted a week and a half before it stopped working. I exchanged it for another one. One month later, the second one stays on all the time, most of the time. I am going to return this one too and buy a different brand.
Good value
Would RecommendGood value works great. So what if it's made in China. Easy to install, but don't mix up the wiring

Motion Sensor
Would Not RecommendThis sensor is complicated and it didnt work for me. It kept turning on during the day which makes no sense for me. I ended up getting a simple one that works perfect.

Poor quality, don’t bother
Would Not RecommendI now need a third unit in under a year! But I’m not buying Utilitech or at Lowe’s. I’m done, and will go to pro electrical supply store, as the this cheaply made unit has cost me hundreds. Maybe more if I had to hire and electrician. After installing a new outdoor light with some underground wiring, and spending time double and triple checked everything when the first one didn’t work. Time wasted. Went to get a replacement and wired it in. Time wasted. This one worked, for about 9 months. Ownin...
not for LED
if using on LED it MUST be a dimmable LED otherwise the light will either flicker or stay on very dim. lowes doesn't even seem to sell one that supports non dimmable LED. get with the times lowes everything is LED now.
