My old deck is only a few inches off the ground and was still very solid, but the wood surface was so weather beaten after 30+ years, so I painted the old wood with 2 coats of the very thick Cabot Deck Correct to seal it thoroughly, and then applied the Trex boards right over top of the old deck lumber. Excellent Upgrade for Existing Deck
Would RecommendWe have two decks, both built about 20 years ago. The framing is solid, but the decking was in very bad shape on both decks. We tried extending the life with paint. They needed new paint every year. the deck was just under 16 feet with one small area just under 8 feet wide. The 16 foot length would work and there would be no butt joints. Would RecommendI was using 8’ and 12’ boards for my 20’ ft wide deck. The 8’ and the 12’ aren’t quite the same size. The 12’ is just slightly higher than the 8, and the 8 is just slightly wider than the 12. This wasn’t just on a couple of boards, it was all of the,. Can’t get a perfect seam but it’s darn close. Would RecommendWe are very happy with our new decking, it looks great, especially with the hidden fasteners. It is very hot in the sun (too hot for bare feet!) but it is so nice to not ever have to worry about resurfacing it! Definitely worth it!

Would RecommendYou need to align and clamp both ends and put the fasteners in from one end to the other. One person could install the entire deck. I did 16 x 12 deck, including pulling the old boards, in 2 days.
