What Customers Are Saying

Customers praise the trap's exceptional effectiveness at catching rats, often within hours, and note its superiority over traditional spring traps. Many appreciate the ease of use, removable bait cup, and one-motion setting mechanism. The trap also works well on chipmunks and mice. However, a significant group reports the bait cup breaks or detaches during normal use, rendering traps unusable and forcing replacement. Some customers express concern that rodents are occasionally caught but not immediately killed, causing prolonged suffering. Despite durability and humane concerns, most reviewers consider it effective and reliable for rodent control.

Tomcat rat snap trap BREAKS!

Would Not Recommend

While this is an excellent trap it has a huge problem, it's material is BRITTLE. Every one of these traps has quickly BROKEN in use, it breaks at the flanges around the bait cup & it breaks at the hinges. The manufacturer needs to use a less brittle material for these traps or use metal at it's weak points, the bait cup & the hinges. These are expensive traps for just one use before breaking. I've been using a candle to heat heavy wire to temporarily melt the wire into the broken bait cup...

my snap trap was severely damaged recently; and now you can see thru the top lid ... I went to throw it away and thought to try re-setting it; it still worked! 3 varmints later, it's still good as new. I figure one more confirmed kill and I'll have reached "Top Gun" status. You guys are geniuses ....

best trap by far!

Excellent trap

Would Recommend

It is very easy to use, non messy and easy to reuse and reset...no worrying about snapping your fingers like with the old style spring traps....and the bait cup that screws in the bottom is very convenient to use and non messy. There is no escaping these traps...tried the spring style traps first and they were slipping right out of them...with these the teeth bite down and they are done for.

They built a better mouse(rat) trap!

Would Recommend

Caught three big ole rats with the snap trap. I even accidentally snapped my thumb in it and it didn't hurt at all. Peanut butter is the best bait. Great product!

Much better than wire/board traps.

Would Recommend

Currently have a problem in my house and with the one, have caut an adult and 6 juveniles over the course of 2 weeks. Worked in apartment maintenance for years. found these to very efficient. Much more so than the standard board/ spring-wire traps. Like the removable bait cup. Why did you change to one molded into the base? I just purchased 3 more, and they do not have the removable cup. I liked that feature, easy to clean . Otherwise excellent produst

This rat trap is worth its money

Would Recommend

I managed to catch one rat yesterday and one today with these traps and I am more than satisfied with them. I buy another one every time I catch a rat with it because I don't want to reuse them. Now I have to go and buy another one because I only have 2 wooden ones left that don't catch anything, the rat will just eat all of the peanut butter from them but it won't get caught.

Disappointment on First Try

Would Not Recommend

I tried a regular mouse trap for a couple nights without any luck. The traps were always sprung, food gone but no catch. Whatever it was had dug a small hole under my fence to get into my garden. The hole seemed a little big for a mouse so I figured it was a rat or some other slightly larger rodent coming in from a bayou behind my home. (I had found a small dead rat in my garden earlier in the year.) So I tried a technique I found online by stringing a revolving tin can smeared with peanut butte...

Love the traps, hate the bait cups

Would Recommend

I have had good success with these traps and have caught quite a few rats with them. I even had a couple up in the loft of my shed at opposite ends that one rat managed the get an arm in one and a leg in the other. They are pretty pricey, but much cheaper and more effective than professional pest control when it comes to rats....mainly because all they do is bait stations and rats seem to be becoming immune to many of the poisons. My main issue with these traps is that the bait cups break easily...

Bought two traps and in 1st month have eliminated 9 rats. Using pup-a-Roni dog treats. Put some in the bait cup and a few pieces below trigger plate.

Would Recommend

Throw all others away. Best trap we have. Best bait is soft pup-a-Roni dog treat. Put some in cup. Then some below trigger plate. 1st month caught 9 serious pests. The big victor trap has not caught a mouse

Doesn't work

Would Not Recommend

I have had these traps set off several times and every time the rat escapes from it unharmed. While the traps are easy to set they do not seem to have enough force to kill let alone hold a rat. Most recently after not reseting the trap immediately the rat returned and stole the bait cup from the trap. I would not recommend this trap. While the trap design is good in theory, it is ineffective in practice.

Worked BetterThan I Expected

Would Recommend

I had rats infiltrate the pumphouse where my pool mechanical equipment is housed. They chewed hole through the wall and used it for shelter over the winter. I've procrastinated dealing with them, since I've never had good luck with conventional traps. The Tomcat looked like a promising alternative, and sure enough, it did the trick. I placed it perpendicular against the back wall as instructed and baited it with a few kibbles of dry cat food. It wasn't set for 6 hours before I had my first...

Caught one correctly, caught another that survived... bait trap broke

i have to say i was happy to catch one rat whose neck snapped by this trap but this morning found a second rat with just its leg caught, alive. it was pretty stressful to deal with. it was a smaller rat and we ended up opening the trap and letting it run away (not an ideal situation for anyone). the bait cup broke off the during the first use. kind of a bummer. it worked without bait, on the other hand on the second try...

4 rats in 2 weeks

Would Recommend

I have placed the trap in my garage with the results listed. So far there has been only one time when the trap was tripped but missed the prey. It is easy to bait, set, and position with minimal fear of snapping yourself like the fear I have had with the old-fashioned spring traps. I can't speak to the long term durability of the bait cups, but so far so good.

Good product but bait cups break

Would Recommend

I set 2 of these traps and the first night I caught a rat. The only problem is that the wings on the bait cup break and you can no longer use the trap because you can not get a replacement cup. I would rate this product higher if not for this problem. Easy to set up.

I heard the trap catch it I went to the trap and there that rodent was DEAD! I just put peanut butter in the trap and followed the instructions and sure enough the Tomcat trap caught and killed that GRUESOME RAT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product! I am VERY SATISFIED! :):)

This is the worst invention ever.

Would Not Recommend

Do not buy this product. Im sorry I wasted my money. I will stick with the glue traps or the old fashion spring loaded. The trap is hard to set. Each time its set and you try to place it, it snaps. Very frustrating. You can't build a better mouse trap. Scrap this stupid invention.

I'm so fearful of the old kind of traps--but when I saw TWO LARGE rats in my house, had to do something. Found the LARGE rat snap but geesh, they are expensive. Since when can one trap work, you have to buy multiple traps. Also having a hard time finding it online to purchase for a relative elsewhere in the state so they can simply pick up at the store. Took a while to catch one, so I need more traps plus need some for the outside as well.

DO NOT buy this product.

Would Not Recommend

I would not give any stars if possible. I have a hard time setting the "old traps" so, I was excited to get these. I purchased four of these "so called" traps, with NO luck! For four days, I have fed these rodents instead of catching them. I've read the other reviews and comments. I don't think it should matter about the size of the rodent to have the ability to catch it. What size does it have to be anyway?? I don't think this trap could even catch Ratzilla. It is a big defect if the rodent get...
