Tomcat Snap Rat Trap

This trap cannot be reliably set. The first time, it took several tries before the trap locked in the open-jaw position. I was able to successfully get a rat (peanut butter and crushed dog kibble), but haven't been able to re-set the trap since. Too bad, because it seemed to work the one time I was able to set it! Of course, I've tossed the packaging and am not particularly excited about mailing a used trap to get a refund.

Got a couple of them over the weekend, they are the best and most effective traps available!

Easy use

I bought this yesterday and bang got a nice big rat about a 1/2 of setting it. Easy to use and handle. I am only giving this a 4 star out of 5 because it didn't kill the rat immediately. The rat thrashed around in it for a bit and was freaking me out (I'm a female) I pretended to not hear it and finally the man in the house woke up and took care of the rat

Inhumane

While this certainly did catch whatever rodent is up in my attic, it's been thrashing about up there for at least 45 minutes and is not slowing down. I saw a lot of other products that advertised themselves as "humane", implying that the kill would be instant. I'd say that I might choose them next time as I really feel bad for the poor creature up there.

Awesome trap

This is the only rat trap you will ever need. This trap is easy to set up and clean up is just as simple because there is none. Simply press down on top of trap and rat falls out. Thank you Tomcat for making a good and reliable trap.

Faulty Latch Design

The locking latch locks as it should, but is NOT strong enough to stand up to the heavy spring. I have gone through 4 of the mouse/rat size, and every one had latch failure after a few days of use. There is sufficient space on the frame to make a more robust latch....very simple design change.....just do it.

Horrible

It definitely caught the rat. Don't get me wrong. But it SUFFERED! It did not die right away. I had to sit thete and listen to the poor creature cry helplessly for almost 10 minutes. Don't buy this trap. Absolutely inhumane. Will never buy from this crap company again!

Cost me a fortune

The trap eventually caught a rat after over a month. But it did not kill the rat..who proceeded to chew through my dishwasher hose. Now I have to pay a plumber to come replace that. So, yeah one rat caught at a huge price and a week of washing dishes by hand. I’m NOT HAPPY!

I have purchased 3 in the last 2 years. Works great, but when I have to reuse it. It does not reset for the 2nd use. I have repurchased in hopes that it would work atleast a 2nd time.

Doesn’t reset

I used this and caught two small mice, but it stopped resetting. Teeth part won’t stay open and ready to snap again on next mouse. I bought 5 and two others were flipped around and sausage bait taken without activating snap. The ones caught were with peanut butter.

Best I have ever used

I have used the "wooden/spring" traps, buckets with ramps to falling boards, poison bait.....and only caught a few rats in my shop..........until yesterday!!! I bought 2 Tomcat Snap Traps and caught 2 big rats last night. Baited with peanut butter and it worked like it was supposed to. I recommend this trap to anyone who needs to rid a building of rats.

Catches but Doesn't Kill

I bought 2 of these snap traps at my local hardware store. So far, they have only managed to catch the rats (that's why I'm giving 2 stars - they do catch rats), but the rats are still alive. Every. Time. I have had to kill numerous rats who end up suffering for hours between setting the traps and checking them. I will NOT use these any more! Too messy and distressing.

Would not recommend

Hands down the cheapest crap I’ve ever used. Wasted money buying two of these. They would not set as one was already broken and found out how cheaply they were made when the other broke. Better off finding one of the wooden rat traps.

broke after first use

When I tried to reset the trap after catching a rat it would not latch and could not be set.

The traps we ordered work better than anything else we’ve ever used. Well-made, easy to use, easy cleanup

Easy to use

I bought 3 traps as our small garden section appeared to be attracting rats. We caught 2 in live traps but I didn't enjoy having to drown them afterward. The first night we caught three. We used peanut butter laced with bird seed. The second night nothing HOWEVER I appeared to not lock the bait cup in place and the dang rat took it down his hole. How do I get a replacement?
