Self tapping
I'm using these to sister 2.3 onto the frame of my metal garage which is 12ga thickness. I still have to drill a pilot hole for them. I'm driving them with a Milwaukee 1/2" corded drill. Even then sometimes the tap head breaks off.

Self tapping screws
Would RecommendI used these screws to attack 2x6" material to metal frame work. They are very strong screws and have no problems tapping into the softer metals. If I'm using them on harder steel I usually predril a pilot hole first.
