Ratings & Reviews for Simpson Strong-Tie ABA 4-in x 4-in ZMAX Wood to concrete (retrofit) Base
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise these post anchors for their heavy-duty construction, rock-solid stability, and ability to prevent rot by elevating posts off concrete. The ZMAX coating resists corrosion effectively, and the pre-drilled holes with split-side design allow easy alignment during installation. Most reviewers highlight durability and code compliance as key strengths, calling them the best choice for decks and outdoor structures. A few mention needing additional washers or note alignment requires patience, but these minor concerns barely diminish the strong consensus that performance justifies the investment for critical structural applications.

Would RecommendI have used this product since they were first out out on the market for all pier footing applications. Simpson Strong-Tie products are always preferred by me and my crews as there is never a question of their durability and quality. If you want a strong connection that meets code anywhere in the country, these are your best bet.

Another necessary part needed for repairs
Would RecommendMy snowbird neighbors were still in upstate NY when Hurricane Milton hit. Their front porch was destroyed & required being rebuilt from scratch. They're in their mid-80's so I had my handyman pick up everything needed to fix the porch for them in order for them to return. Lowe's was the place to go, as it always is.

Not a good support

Anchor size is 1/2" not 5/8" !
Would RecommendSimpson has incorrectly said on this page that 5/8" is the required anchor size, but 1/2" is actually correct. And don't believe me, it is printed on the product itself (see pictures). The hole where the anchor goes is 9/16" wide, and a 5/8 bolt will not fit! I'm glad I used bolts at the store to double check because Simpson has been giving out the wrong information online.
