What Customers Are Saying
The Poulan 18" Pro Chainsaw appears to have mixed reviews. Some customers report it works well for occasional light use, cutting through small to medium-sized trees without issue. However, many others experienced significant problems, including difficulty starting and keeping the engine running, the chain frequently coming off the bar, lack of power, and durability issues, often requiring multiple returns. The consensus suggests this may be a suitable option only for very light, occasional use around the home, as it may not be reliable for more demanding tasks.

Would RecommendAfter comparing several brands of 18-in gas chainsaws, I settled on Poulan PRO 42cc 2-Cycle model. It seemed to have the best price for the features I absolutely needed in a medium duty chainsaw. Upon using it I found it to be very easy to use, and lightweight enough that it wasn't a burden at all. After warming up with a few small (under 6" dia) trees, I decided to tackle a trunk about 12" to 14" in diameter. I cut a wedge out of it about 3/4 thru like the book recommended to get a nice notch. ...

Great for the price
Would RecommendI have already cut down several large trees on my seven acres of Tennessee forest property and cut and split them for firewood. That being said my neighbor brought his new saw over (also a poulan) and had several issues with starting, bogging down and running. We emptied his gas and replaced it with mine and viola, no issues anymore. Turns out he had bought gas from a regular gas station, DON'T BUY 10% ETHANOL GAS. Also make sure your mixture is correct and hopefully you shouldn't have any issue...
Hard to start
Would Not RecommendIt takes a lot of priming and pulling to get it started and will not run well until thoroughly warmed up. Cuts well but the chain must be readjusted several times during early use to remain on the bar.

You get what you pay for, same as other brands
Would Not RecommendI used this saw for the first time yesterday. It belongs to a friend and I'm borrowing it. It reminds me of a small Poulan 14 or 16" bar saw that I bought 16 years ago which had steam coming off the chain as I cut because the automatic oiler stopped working. I returned it and went back to using my dad's old Stihl 041 "Farm Boss" saw that he bought new for about $300 in 1973! First, I was unable to start the saw. It was as if the saw was not turned on (because it was switched off). I took the sp...
Broke on First use and Lowes would warranty it...
Would Not RecommendI bought the chainsaw six months ago when we bought our house and when it came time to use it, it stopped running after only cutting half a tree... I used the proper oil/fuel ratio. sent it out for the warranty and they said it wasn't "properly lubricated and the motor lost all compression. 130 to fix a 160 chainsaw............ what a joke!
No more Poulan products for me
Would Not RecommendHad problems with the hard to secure gas cap from the start. Second season using the chainsaw. I have properly maintained including using fuel stabilizer, fuel oil mix, and bar oil. Had to rebuild the carb once already. Had similar problem with Poulan gas leaf blower. I am tossing this one and purchasing a higher end model from another manufacture.
Decent Saw
Would RecommendDecent saw for the price. The package is a good value. It likes to stall out so you'll have to tweak the carb a little but that's no big deal; that tool is not included with the package so make sure you have access to something capable of fitting the adjustment screws. Virtually no kickback due to the skip tooth chain but as a result it cuts a little slower. Don't use regular gas (87) or it will run like excreta; I put 93 super in all my gas equipment. The extra .30$ or .40$ per gallon is worth ...
Good for a year
Would Not RecommendSearch the internet first. Lots and lots of bad reviews on this brand. Had it a year and after that cant get it to stay running. Barely used, drain fuel every time and took really good care of it. Terrible value.
Poor quailty
Would Not RecommendHas never run right and cannot find anywhere that will fix under warranty. The other 16 in broke as soon as the warranty was up.
Price To Power Ratio Best
Would RecommendThis chainsaw has lived up to why i purchased Poulan Pro. With larger cc motor for price and bar length makes this a best buy for home needs. Chainsaw starts quickly and runs/cuts perfectly. If there are cons about this saw it's probably because most buyers may not be following instructions per operation manual. Since this motor is larger make sure choke is adjusted until motor is "fully" warm and on restarts. Starts and runs perfectly on first pull when choke is set correctly. If not used for s...
18 inch 42cc Poulan chain saw
Would RecommendFor what I would consider a disposable chainsaw it works pretty good ... Does it compare to my Stihls ?? No , but my Stihls can't be had for this price ... This saw runs and cuts pretty good .. It does what I need it to do while my Stihls do what I need them to do ...

Great saw for the price
Would RecommendAppreciate that Lowe's price matched this saw with Wal Mart for me. I do prefer to make my purchases at Lowe's when I can get the same price.

Chainsaw
Would RecommendThis chainsaw appears to be of good quality and functionality. I did have trouble getting it to start and stay running if the throttle was pulled too quickly until the engine had warmed up considerably. The packaging omitted one important piece of information: what fuel:oil ratio. The store sample didn't have the fuel cap present on the model example. With an educated guess, I chose the 40:1 TRUFUEL which turned out to be correct but I hate to guess on things like that.

Extremely disappointing
Would Not RecommendHad this saw for about 5 months now. Recently purchased a home with woods all around it. My old chainsaw pull starter broke and since it was so old, i could't get a replacement part (had it for about 6 years). Bought this chainsaw because I had good experience with Poulan in the past. Started clearing my land for my metal sheds to be put up and worked great. Took down cedar trees and pine trees without problem. Put the saw up for the summer, brought it back out at the beginning of September to s...
flawless performance
Would Recommendfollow starting instructions and allow engine to warm up before cutting. check and adjust chain tension regularly. most important, use higher octane gas ( i use the pre-mixed because it has no ethanol in it! ) This is BEST SAW dollar for dollar! ( also has BEST warranty! ) + $25 case+$20 extra chain! + fully assembled...add gas and oil and go to work! 8hrs straight clearing mesquite trees up to 12" diam.
