What Customers Are Saying
The Poulan 18" Pro Chainsaw appears to have mixed reviews. Some customers report it works well for occasional light use, cutting through small to medium-sized trees without issue. However, many others experienced significant problems, including difficulty starting and keeping the engine running, the chain frequently coming off the bar, lack of power, and durability issues, often requiring multiple returns. The consensus suggests this may be a suitable option only for very light, occasional use around the home, as it may not be reliable for more demanding tasks.

Would RecommendJust picked this up after being undecided on the available saws. This was priced better for the larger engine and bar than the others. Used for 3 hours straight and it worked great. Only con was that it felt pretty heavy, but the balance was good. Had to loosen the chain after running for 15 minutes or so as it was bogging down the engine it was so tight. Ran perfect all day. I'll amend this review if things change.
Two, Going on Three
Would RecommendI Purchased a Poulan Pro 18"(PP4218AVX 42CC) and also purchased a 20" (PP4220AVX) both from Lowes about 3-4yrs ago. Got some good use out of it cutting full length logs and making firewood pieces shorter as well as around house pruning.. Replaced many chains and even the bar on the 18" (my faults). Well... there's a reason why it's called Poulan Pro; because eventually you become a Pro at Pullin. BOTH are having trouble starting, staying on, reving up, and cutting. I tried cleaning, replacing pa...
Terrible purchase!
Would Not RecommendWon't crank. Had it longer that 30 days before I tried so the store would not take it back. Service 800 # was useless. $180 for a parts saw.
Reading many reviews, I had doubts, but...........
Would RecommendI purchased the Poulan Pro 18" few days ago from the local Lowe's store. Came home, added the bar and chain oil and the mixed 50:1 fuel, started it...but it kept stalling after a minute or two of running. Called the customer service number, they suggested the carburetor might need an adjustment. Today, I went over my stepdaughter's house to tackle my first job with this chainsaw, cutting a good size fallen tree. I had some doubts and skeptics, due to my initial experience, but to my surprise,...
jack of all trades
Would Not RecommendThis chainsaw is not worth the money! They should pay you to take this thing. I add the oil to gas mix, and let it run at for a few min to warm up before I do the first cut. I had to keep on the trigger for gas, it would die if I did not. Chain pop off on first cut, second cut chainsaw got stuck in tree. Had to used wedge's to drop the tree!
Poor Quality!
Would Not RecommendAfter reading all the reviews I decided to take a chance with this saw. Not listening to the reviews and the Lowe's employees, I made the mistake of purchasing it. I read all the instructions and proceeded to start the saw first time. It idled for ten seconds as I waited for the 30 second warm up period, but stalled. So I then proceeded to perform a warm start when the pull cord came completely out of the starter mechanism. I took it back and got the Husqavarna 440e. More money, but less headach...
Don't walk Run Away from this piece of junk
Would Not RecommendBought one, returned home. One attempt to pull start resulted in the pull starter disconnecting from the machine. First attempt, so I returned it. Got another , returned home. The second on lasted three pulls. Returned to store got money back. Left store saw two more people in line with same problem.
Good chain saw but fuel line will disintegrate
I bought this chain saw several years ago to cut up some tree branches on my property. The biggest problem is that the alcohol in today's gasoline will eat up the fuel line so you should always empty the fuel tank and run the carburetor dry if you plan to store it away for any length of time. What happened to my saw is that the fuel disintegrated into little plastic pieces that got sucked into the carburetor so it would not start or run. I replaced the fuel line with alcohol-resistant Tygon f...
Excellent Choice!
Would RecommendThis unit starts easy, cuts excellent, and is easy to use. Plenty of safety features that do not get in the way. The only negative thing I can say is there are a lot of plastic parts that may become an issue in the future. But for now, I give it five stars!

Do not waste your money
Would Not RecommendI bought this a year ago but just now had to use it after hurricane Harvey. If you like wearing your butt out pulling and pulling and doing a lot of extra work just starting this thing then by all means go ahead and buy it. Instead of naming it Poulan they should have named it Pullin. Also, the blue choke lever is hard to pull out. You might find you always need a pair of pliers to grab it and pull it out. I sold mine for $50.00 bucks. good riddance.
Pass This One By!
I manage a gated community of 108 homes and purchased this saw to stay on top of some of the occasional tree issues that I have rather than pay too much for a "specialist". On the very first use it ran okay with some minor issues with dying, bogging down, hard restarts, and the chain jumping off constantly. After the first hour, the trouble just got worse. It would not keep running, it bogs down easily on branches as small as 2-3 inches. It won't idle for more than a minute. It's difficult to st...
Biggest piece of escement
Would Not RecommendI own a 15 year old PP295 and it ran good for 12 + years. Of course I went back to the same brand. What a mistake. I have a lot of work to get done and this thing totally let me down. It won't run for more than a few minutes at a time. I ran it for maybe 15 minutes the first day and now when I really need it, it will only start for a minute at a time. After cranking on it for a few minutes the crank string broke. I'll be going back to Lowes tomorrow to try to get my money back and buy a differen...
Weak motor
Would RecommendMy saw cuts great but sometimes the carb doesn't send enough gas to the motor and it boggs down. If you're going to use a saw a lot I wpuld spend the money and buy a Stihl
Motor Blew
Would Not RecommendHad a little over 2 years, had it professionally maintained for those two years. Never used anything but the gas mixture from Lowes was using like normally do and according to the repair shop the motor blew. I was only cutting normal stuff and motor gave out. Oh well no warranty if over two years. This is not a heavy duty Chainsaw.
Great chain saw for the price
Would RecommendWent to Lowes to buy the Poulan Pro 18" did not have in stock so settled on the 16" big mistake had trouble getting it started after getting it started work great but every time I shut lt down had trouble restarting it, returned to different lowes hoping they had the 18" but did not went elsewhere to buy the 18" and started on third pull and after shutting down it started first or second pull every time if you want a good chain saw for low price get the poulan pro 18" do not settle for the 16" a...
Piece of junk.
Had a 16" Poulan and worked great for the 'around the yard' stuff. Upgraded to this model and have had nothing but issues. Maybe get through a tank of gas before it over heats & struggles to start. Have under 15 hours of use with it & won't even start cold. Manufacturers & Lowe's warranties have expired so I stuck with a fairly new chainsaw that is out of warranty & won't run. Huge regret buying this piece of junk!!!
Junk!!!
Would Not RecommendWasn't expecting much for $130. Even read reviews stating it was hard to start but took the chance anyway. Big mistake! Followed steps to a T. On the 6th pull of the starting string the string pulled right out of the chainsaw. So it broke before I even ever got it started. Took it back and bought a different brand (even though probably made by same company.)
We’re so sorry you experienced this issue with your chainsaw. That is not typical performance for this item. If we messed up, we want to make it ri... Read More
chain saw
Would RecommendFor the money a good saw. It does what I need. Keep the chain sharp and clean saw after each use.I Expect the saw to be serviceable for some time. Remember for the money it is a decent buy. Cuts as well as a $350.00 Sthil. Follow starting instructions and it starts every time. Good Buy! This the second Poulan I've bought . Wore the first one out.

Junk!
Would Not RecommendBought yesterday after a tree fell in the yard. It won't stay running. I'm more sore from having to restart it every few minutes than moving pieces of tree. Nowhere on the box does it say 40:1 or 50:1. The Lowe's app says 50:1. You open the box and it says 40:1. Growing increasingly disappointed with Lowe's customer service and the quality of their products.
