Ratings & Reviews for Pennington Smart Seed Ohio State 7-lb Mixture/Blend Grass Seed

Beware the positive reviews

This seed simply does not germinate, despite tilling the soil, seeding, and watering twice a day. I was fooled into buying this by the positive reviews, but notice that the positive reviews were obtained "as part of a promotion", and the people who wrote those positive reviews were happy to get free seed.

Reaping the benefits of good grass seed

This seed produced grass within one week of it being sowed. I kept it watered everyday with using the soak function on my hose nozzle. In both the all day sun and in the mostly shade areas of my yard, the grass grew long and fast. I do need to reseed again for the spots I missed (and where the birds got to the seed). However this Ohio mix is perfect. Now my neighbors have seen it, and they are buying it too.

Pennington Ohio State Mix

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass seed comes in a nice durable package (things that girls care about) and I love that the mix is specific to my area. I've never seen this mix before, so I'm hopeful it grows well. The seeds are actually green, so it's easy to see where it's been spread. This brand/mix was readily available online through major retailers.

Ohio mix

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our grass has never been fuller, never been greener than it is after using the Ohio mix from Pennington. A great price for a good amount of seed. Will purchase again in the future!

Great for the Buckeye State

Put down some Scotts down and this stuff. The Scotts took forever, but this came right up. Even with northeast Ohio's horrible spring weather. Looks great.

next to no growth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had high hopes for this but were let down. We ordered the Ohio blend as it was closest to our climate (Indiana). We spread it in both new/bare areas and spotty patches in the established grass. We have seen absolutely zero growth in the new areas. The established patches look SLIGHTLY more full, but not by much. It seems like there is a lot of fertilizer in this blend, but very little actual seed, so maybe that's the issue.

Happy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our yard looks terrible after this winter, so we were really excited to get this product. We choose the Ohio mix since Kentucky wasn't available. my husband was happy that it also had fertilizer. This was a good value as it handled all the zones we needed to cover in our little bigger than average subdivision lot. We're super excited to watch it grow!
