Ratings & Reviews for Kobalt 18.0-in Split Shaft Attachment Capable Corded Electric String Trimmer

The string constantly breaks

I went through the string that came with this trimmer in less than an hour. Unfortunately I ordered this unit because it was on sale and I needed one quickly. Before it came I read the reviews about the string breaking issues and the head so I bought some .095 string as a back up. Some times the string would last 10 minutes before breaking off at the head and sometimes less than 30 seconds after resetting the string. I believe it has to be the design of the head and the openings for the string s...

Plenty of power and fast line replacement.

Excellent product and a fair price.

Excellent product

It has a lot of power and it was at a good price.

Best product for the money.

Best product for the money. Why use a battery powered unit if you can reach your property with an extension cord. Cheaper, more powerful, longer running.

Iffy trimmer head

It's easy to put together and easy to use. Very powerful. It is a bit heavy. However I am not a fan of the trimmer head. Probably more than half the time the line does not come out the other end without multiple tries. Also at least half the time it mis-winds and the ratchet stops turning so I have to open it up, remove the line and start over. And then the ratchet is not all that easy to turn. The head is what keeps me from giving this 5 stars.

Easy to put together easy to use

Like how it works really trim’s great

Poor line feed and restring

Worse string trimmer I have ever purchased and tried to use. First the motor is in the handle and as a result has poor weight balance. The string assembly is impossible. Need 4 hands and thumbs to resting the spool and reattach. Then you are just plain lucky that the string will feed when bumped. The operation is weak. The EGO 56 V 16 in is much better. Just need to be able and willing to buy batteries which are expensive.

KST180-06 - Overall very good.

KST180-06 - Overall very good. Pro - Very strong motor. Cons You should wear a face cover when using Goes thru trimmer string relatively fast You have to use the 0.08 trimmer string - not the 0.085. I will bind. Loading new trimmer string should be simple but it a little tough. It should take 16ft total - 8 ft out each side.

Returned it.

Too heavy, does not spool correctly, string runs out too quickly, returned

No replacement head

I've tried 2 replacement heads and neither one is compatible. I went to the site to order the replacement as advised here in the reviews by Lowe's and the replacement head is currently not available. So I guess I need to throw away my useless 1 year old weed eater because Kobalt / Lowes doesn't provide replacement heads. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Replacement-Spool-for-80-Volt-String-Trimmer/1000769040

ok trimmer

It is a little on the heavy side, restringing is a royal pain. Threading the string is 50/50 chance of success.

Does the job well

Works as expected. Like that is has enough power. I do however advance the string by hand by pushing the spool and turning it opposite to the arrow direction. Goes easier, allows fine adjustment of the string and there is less wear on the plastic spool.

Good till it wasn't

I would have given this electric wee eater a great review. But unfortunately after only using for 3 months the entire trimmer head just blew apart in the middle of operation. Now that I have lost pieces it is not even a usable paper weight. Before that though it did a tremendous job and I was very pleased.

Great wacker, line feed horrible

First purchase was replaced because of line feed problem and extensive wear on the feed spools and bumper. Second one like the first was excellent until the line had to be installed. Spent an hour and 6 tries to get it going again. It ran through and my third spool is not working. To make matters worse I decided to just replace the spool and head, bumper, and cap. Major problem is I searched for an hour and there is now place I can find to buy the parts, according to the part numbers on the web...

I hate this thing!

Trouble opening the spool head unless you are a man with big strong hands. Spooling it wasn’t easy but got it done. Directions need work as nowhere does it say if you wind some of the string at the top and some at the bottom or all in one place. Tried it twice both ways and the 5” of string on both sides kept breaking off until I had a useless 3” or less on each side. In this Florida heat, this 74 yr old female is ready to throw the dang thing in the dumpster. I’m done! Never again.

Weed wacker

I was better than I expected. Did the job really fast, I have a small front yard.

Excellent trimmer.

It accepted all my Ryobi attachments: Blower, Tiller, Edger, Bush trimmer, and string trimmer. More powerful than the original Ryobi that it replaced.
