What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this file for its exceptional sharpness, durability, and precision performance. Most highlight its ability to deliver smooth, professional results on steel, aluminum, and other materials with minimal effort, particularly for sharpening blades and refining edges. The 6-inch length offers ideal control for tight spaces, while the dual-faced design allows quick transitions between coarse and fine filing. Reviewers consistently note the teeth retain sharpness even after extensive use on tough materials, with many citing the lifetime warranty as reinforcing confidence in longevity. The compact, portable design is valued for reaching awkward areas and fitting easily in toolbags. A few report isolated quality issues or wish for wider surfaces, but these concerns rarely impact overall satisfaction.

Would RecommendThe file is a nice size and easy to use. I sharpened my pocket knife with it and got a very sharp, clean edge very quickly. It is great to use it to file sharp edges down to make them smooth.
Need a Good Metal File
Would RecommendIt's a metal file and I've used it to sharpen tools and it works just fine.
A good little file, sharp, and clean
Would RecommendThis file is carefully packaged and a nice size that I will use for small detail work on my model railroad. The file was displayed in a fashion that I found favorable along with being covered in a plastic coating. I expect it to last as long and outlive me as the one it replaced was over 50 years old! Highly recommend it. Nicely sharp.
It does the job.
Would RecommendThis is a nice compact file that is useful for sharpening tools and filing edges off small items. It could be used with plumbing and finish automotive jobs. It can be used without a handle (not included), but is more comfortable and controlled with one. Fits nicely in a portable tool set.
A nice cheap file for small work
Would RecommendThis file is great if you have small jobs like light metal and wood. It’s a single cut with a smooth grade so if you’re looking to fine tune something it’s great. Not so good for removing lots of material.
Small and Effective
Would RecommendThe Kobalt 6” Smooth Mill File is a small file but very effective. I made a countertop in my laundry room out of melamine and added an iron on PVC taped edge. This little file is just the right size to control the angle of the bevel to make a smooth edge even with the countertop. A bigger file sometimes bites into the tape and either puts a mat into the tape or the top. This little file was easy to manipulate so that the edges were perfectly smooth when finished. The smaller size is great for st...
Good size, great for refined work and sharpening
Would RecommendThe 6-in Single-cut Smooth Tooth Mill File is my first single-cut file and I am impressed on how well it works for refining your cuts or sharpening your knifes. The file grooves are really fine, yet if pressed hard on the work piece very aggressive – they’ll smooth out any burrs from your cutting work. The 6 inch length feels the better choice for fine work - it’s not too long, neither too short, allowing for good strokes, working the entire blade’s surface and getting the job done quick. I us...
Perfect for small jobs
Would RecommendThis is perfect for the small jobs like sharpening shears or even tines on the tiller. The list begins with the best points 1. Has edges so you can get into small places. 2. Is cut so it works best on the up stroke only. 3. Perfect for keeping in the tool box. There is one thing that this should come with, a handle.
Handy
Would RecommendNice little file i used to do a hole range of side work but know it's just for me and my family this is just the right size to keep in the bucket to have with you all the time.
Kobalt 6-Inch smooth is a dual-faced handy file
Would RecommendThe Kobalt 6-Inch smooth file is dual-faced with a single-cut pattern on one side, and double-cut on the other for multi-purpose use This is a small handy file for fine work like: cleaning up thread lead end putting edge back on scrapers, cleaning up jaws on my adjustable wrench or dressing end of my chisel. The files hardness is good there was no dulling after filing tool steel and having single and double cut on opposite sides allowed switching quickly from coarse to fine cut
A Handy Little File
Would RecommendI used my new 6" Kobalt file last night to clean up some rusty hardware, and what a nice job it did. You can see from the pictures provided the before and after results. The file is sized for small jobs. It cuts very nicely and leaves a smooth, shiny finish on steel with no effort. I happened to have a spare wooden handle that fit just right, making the file more comfortable to use.
You know it's a good file.....
Would RecommendYou know it's a good file when The Husband took one look at it when I pulled it out of the package and has asked about it nearly a dozen times. I have a feeling I might "lose" this file to his ski bag. The file itself is fairly fine, which it great for finish work. Size is good, and I included some photos with a measuring tape next to the file for reference.
6" Single-cut Smooth Tooth Mill file
Would RecommendI received a 6" single-cut Smooth Tooth Mill file. Files come is several grades ranging from smooth, second cut, b***, and course. This is a rather small file, which makes it easy to use for small jobs. It produced a clean, smooth finish on a cast iron part I was working on. The teeth are easy to clean with a wire file brush. I didn't like the packaging that included some sort of plastic wrap that was difficult to remove. On the plus side, the packaging indicates the file has a lifetime wa...
Great add to my toolbox!
Would RecommendReceived the product but it was not the "advertized" file, it was a "fine tooth" file. I needed a fine tooth file so this worked out for me. The overall working length of 5" was great and I liked that the sides of the file also had teeth cut into it allowing use in narrow spaces. One drawback was that the file did not have any tang protection (required to use on a drill press or lathe). I installed my own tang protector and it works great. Thank You!
Nice little fine file
Would RecommendI was looking for a smaller fine file to add to my collection. This one fits my needs. I tried it out on aluminum, PVC and steel. The latter was a bolt that I cut off with a hack saw. I used the file to dress the cut and threads. It worked great on all three materials. It is very fine. So, I recommend buying a file card to keep it clean.
Top quality, handy little file
Would RecommendThis is handly little 6" Mill cut file. It's a pocket sized file that you can quickly use to knock off burrs, clean up an chisel or blade edge, or shaping small wood pieces. Very handy for small work (small carvings) This one cuts well (but not meant for heavy material removal). The teeth are holding up well with a few days use as a metal edge burr remover. Can't go wrong with this one. Did I mention it has the standard Kobalt hassle-free lifetime guarantee!
Quality Metal File
Would RecommendI used this file to smooth down the edge of a formica contertop endcap kit. The kit says to iron it on and file the excess. This file worked well and smoothed the edge nicely. See in pics below. File seems to be well made and has stayed sharp so far.
