Ratings & Reviews for IRWIN Extra long 3/8-in x 16-in Woodboring Spade bit Drill Bit
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
The product is praised for its ability to quickly and efficiently drill through a variety of materials, including wood, fence posts, and railroad ties. The extra length is highlighted as a major advantage, allowing users to reach deep areas and drill all the way through thick walls or stacked materials. While the bit is considered sharp and aggressive, some users note that it may require more downward pressure and frequent clearing of the hole to prevent it from dulling quickly, especially when drilling through harder woods. Overall, the majority of customers are satisfied with the product's performance and value.

Would RecommendThe Irwin spade drill bit has a thicker shank than the Bosch and, thus, is less likely to bend. On the other hand, when drilling through landscaping timbers stacked three high, I had to keep pulling the bit out of the hole to remove the shavings. For sustained drilling, I'd spend the extra cash to get an auger bit.

Spade Bit
Would RecommendThis product works very well if you first drill your hole as deep as you can using a regular twist drill. Spade bits have a tendency to do a lot of dancing around if you do not predrill first.

Not durable
Would Not RecommendDrilling holes for deck posts. Didn't really take long before it was dull and not cutting well.
Worthless
Would Not RecommendA very bad drill bit, all I did was have constant problems with it and ended up having to go about the process a different way using other bits I had and was not amused. I would not buy this bit or recommend it to anyone
Tiny House
Would Not RecommendIt's so long you can't feel what ur going through, jams up

Irwin 3/8" x 14" wood drill bit
Would RecommendExcellent product. Allowed me to drill through 2 railroad ties (13") at a time with relative ease. I have drilled 8 of these holes and the bit is still effective. The only negative is a very slight curve in the shaft. However, it is not enough to degrade performance. Irwin makes a good product.

Long drill
Would RecommendNeeded to run 3/8" tubing from reverse osmosis system to fridge. This let me drill out bottom of cabinet through floor 5" below. Helped make run invisible, and several feet shorter. Pointy tip let me stop halfway through floor, and double check no important items below.

Got the job done
Would RecommendI don't use a drill bit this long very often and didn't want to pay the price for a one a professional would insist on. The straight shaft required pulling back often while drilling the holes to dump built up drill shavings, not a problem where I don't use it that often.

This is a good product.
Would RecommendThis wood boring bit went through 7-8 inches of older, drier wood without a problem while being attached to a basic corded drill. I did have to back it out a few times to get the dust out, but that would be necessary with any spade type bit.
