What Customers Are Saying

The product is a high-performing and versatile woodworking drill bit that can quickly and cleanly drill holes through various types of wood, including hardwoods and old, rough-cut lumber. Many customers praised its sharp, aggressive cutting ability, which allows it to "chew through" the material with minimal effort. However, some caution that its aggressive nature requires careful control, as it can pull the drill forward and potentially cause issues if used improperly or in certain applications. A small number of users also reported that the bit dulled or burned up more quickly than expected, especially when used on very hard woods. Overall, the consensus is that the drill bit is an excellent choice for tasks like boring holes for electrical wiring, installing landscape timbers, and creating pilot holes for other projects, though users should take care when operating it.

Great product and lasts a long time

Would Recommend

This is a great product. It has a starter auger, so it basically pulls the bit through the wood for you. You don’t have to apply any pressure and drill kickback is nonexistent. I love it.

Easy to use, good fit for outlets. Used to drill an outlet through a 2x4, worked well, good value.

My goto bits for large boring projects.

Would Recommend

These are great for my purposes (boring pilot holes through landscaping timbers). But when I put them on my 1/2" drill with an extension piece they just run right through 8"pieces with little trouble at all. They have a pilot screw on the tip that engages the wood and proceeds to guide the bit through the wood. Very little effort is needed to bore the holes. And because they have the small sharp cutters on the outside edge of the bit, the hole is clean cut.

Quick Hole Cutting

I got this to drill holes into hackberry tree stumps to get rid of them. Wow, does this bit drill a hole, it pulls itself in and throws the chips out.

Great Bit

Would Recommend

I use this 5/8" bit on exotic hard woods and I found that it was great. I have added an extension to get this bit through 5 1/2 inches. It is holding its edge and still cutting well

I’d buy it again!

The end in the chuck broke when I hit a nail drilling through a top plate, but that’s because I chucked it short. Needed a long reach in the attic. Going to get it replaced, but when I rechucked it and picked a new spot it blew right through that top plate!

Very poor performance

Would Not Recommend

Very poor performance. Slowly chewed its way through a treated 2x10 treated board. After it started smoking I changed to a regular spade bit and it blasted right through the next 6 holes with no problem in record time. Cant say I'm too impressed with this "Speedbor". Perhaps Really Slowbor would have been a better name. I would not recommend it to anyone else drilling anything harder than Balsa wood, and certainly would never purchase again myself.

Not so good

Would Not Recommend

Tried drilling through 30-year old 2 x 10 pine basement ceiling joists. The bit kicked back at me more than a standard flat bit would AND it seemed like pretty slow going. So as a test, I switched to the standard Irwin Speedbor spade bit and it went through the wood at least 3x faster, with MUCH less kickback. I had purchased the "better" bit thinking it would be faster - luckily I had the spade bit on hand. And that bit already had some use on it, but was still faster. Go figure. Note that the ...
