What Customers Are Saying

The Irwin Marples Forstner drill bits are praised for their ability to cut clean, smooth, and precise holes in a variety of woods. Users report the bits are sharp, durable, and maintain their edge well, particularly when used with a drill press. However, some customers experienced issues with the bits wandering or binding in harder woods, and felt they dulled more quickly than expected. Overall, the majority of users were satisfied with the performance and quality of these drill bits.

Safer & more controlled when using.

Would Recommend

Wanders a bit to start with hardwood. More stable & safer than other types of bits, especially when your sleepy. Have not thought of a good way to sharpen it yet, however lasts much (MUCH) longer than other types for making 1 1/2 inch birdhouse openings. Again it is much safer than other types even though it does cost more, the price is worth it, the hole is smoother also.

I bought this to recess door hinges. Very sharp and saved me a ton of time.

A bit pricey but it was needed.

If you plan to install a concealed cabinet hinge you are likely going to need a 35 mm Forstner bit. Good luck trying to find a metric bit. 1-3/8" equals 34.9 mm but it worked perfectly.

I. tried unsuccessfully to drill a hole in hardwood with my old, dull 2 inch bit . I bought this one and it worked well. All good Forstner bits are too expensive in my opinion in my opinion

This bit is the clear choice over paddle bits. Drills clean, efficiently and perfect size for a plug.

Very Poor Quality

Would Not Recommend

This might work ok for rough cuts on 2 x 4's, but not at all a quality woodworking bit. It took a lot of work just to clean up the burs and rough spots in order to actually sharpen it. The design didn't allow sharpening without grinding parts out first. Definitely will never buy this brand again.

Would Recommend

Used an 1.25” with wood, nylon, PTFE, and other materials with superb results every time. So stay tuned because tomorrow (05-01-2020) Ima gonna cut 2 of 1.5” deep holes in aluminum with an 1 1/8” bit. Note: gonna use a milling machine for this, but it’s just a shiny drill press... Any ‘cheenists out there who can suggest an RPM and feed rate, lemme know.
