Solid wood boring set

These woodboring drill bits are solid frame drop Forged bits that have done exactly what I have asked them to in soft pine. I have not used them Yet on harder woods and will update my review with them then. Only slight slippage with the pine.

Very happy with these

Just bought these today 1/10/19 to make yard dice (YARDZEE).Put the bit in my ShopSmith drill press and drilled 21 holes in the first dice.Every hole very clean cut.Then did the other 4 dice so for all 5 dice that was a total of 105 holes, no problem at all no chips or smoke.Looking forward to the next 6 sets.Thank You Irwin very good product.

Clean holes perfectly centered

I used to pencil mark the center of the 0.5 in hole and use a normal drill bit. The result was off-center hole regardless of how I pilot hole it. The walls are messy and it could barely fit in some loss cables, let alone a dowel. With the new frostner bits, it locks onto the center dead on and never shift over the whole process. The wall is perfectly straight and clean. If you are like me who appreciate accurately drilled holes, this is a good investment.

Drills are great, but not to drill a deep hole.

So I ended up buying the small set (8 piece), and then need a different size so bought the larger 14 set. Both worked great to drill clean holes on the drill press, even in Black Walnut. The catch for low rating? Well you can only go about 3 inches deep, and no possible way to go deeper. I contacted a very friendly person at Irwin 800 technical support, who confirmed they do not make an extension that will work with the bits!! Woodboring drill bits

This is a great set of drill bits; sharp and easily puts holes in wood.

Excellent description.

I used these bits to cut relief pockets in my fly tying portable table top unit. It allowed very tight cuts and chip relief. I used a larger bit to cut in my individual pockets for small parts. Again they are sharp and the storage case is very handy when the bits are not in use!

Haven’t used all of them yet but two I have worked well. Clean and smooth holes each time.

Great value!

I went in to get a 1/2”” forstner bit and found this set instead. Great value for the price, and got more than I expected. I needed to make some cleaner holes for dowel joinery in a table and they fit like a glove!

Great hole cutting tool

I have always wanted some of these bits.

These bits worked like a charm. Didn't use the dtill press because it wouldn't fit. I just clamped the project to the work bench and it worked well. I was offsetting the head of a carriage bolt so I needed a flat bottom. The points gave me a good center mark to drill the rest of the hole for the bolt.

Not what id expect from irwin

Just bought these but probably taking them back. After inspecting them, the grinds aren't very good. All edges have buds, uneven and the perimeter cutting teeth aren't very sharp. Seems like harbor freight quality. I have not used these, so I can not attest to the durability or accuracy (hole size, amount of wobble) but, I know a poor grind and finish when I see it.

Forstner bits

Needed to replace hinges on 25 year old double patio Andersen doors. The new hinges required a re-mortising of the hinge groove since the original hinges were no longer made. Using a 3/4 in Forstner bit the mortises were easily accomplished. Door works well. To replace these doors is ~$1600 plus labor. The Forstner kit cost me $27. Great deal. Great tools.
