Worth the Effort

Used with the Maple wood threaded bun feet and they are attached in a safe and sturdy fashion!

Tricky to install but make a secure connection

Makes mounting 1/4x20 bolts to a flat surface very secure. They are a bit tricky to install using a flathead screwdrive. I used a 1/4x20 stud with a stopper nut to drive them.

Outside threads too coarse

The outside threads need to be finer in order to aline perpendicular. It is extremely difficult to get insert set perfectly. E-Z LOK has a similar insert with much finer outside threads. Get those instead.

Useful but beware of fragile brass

These inserts work better when you can easily put them in place. The brass is soft and easily broken. The inserts worked well to secure mounting screws in the top of the backseat cushion on my boat. The mounting bars there screwed directly into the cushion. But on the bottom the bars were slotted into mounting brackets, which meant each screw had to line up with three holes instead of two. As I tried to force the insert tightly into the third hole with a screwdriver, an insert broke.

Not the sturdiest

They did the job, but one of four of them broke when I tried to screw it into the pre drilled hole. So maybe buy extras?

Garbage

Save your time, frustration & money. These will break, unless your inserting them into a peeled orange. Brass is too soft for 90% of intended use. Don't use a screwdriver! If you're not willing to spend the extra money on better material other than brass, than your project isn't that important to you. You'd be better off just glueing your pieces together. You'll have a better shot of success by spending more money on an insertion tool or extra hardware.

When screwing the insert into the wood the notch straight up snapped, and that was that I was using minimal force going slow, bought three all three snapped

Easily broken

Brittle and easily broken - might be ok for very soft substances but not for anything harder than particle board.

6 inserts: 3 broke, 2 backed out

Bought 6 for a shop table I made. Bolt and nut install worked on 2, but those back out when I undo bolt sometimes, in other words the pilot hole seems too large. Bolt and nut install on 3 of them didn't work. Videos that show it working are wrong. The top with the slot is a continuation of the thread and wedges very tightly under the thread of the nut making the insert, nut, and bolt inseparable. The insert nut backs out. Need vise-grips to separate the insert nut after it backs out, which ruins...

Poor Quality

Unable to install these as they break at the slot.
