Would RecommendI purchased some 1/4" rod elsewhere and it turned out to be quite a few thousandths out of round and would not fit the 1/4" bearing hole. This rod was much more consistent in diameter and I had no problem sliding the 1/4" bearings over the length of it.

Convenient source for metal by the piece
Would RecommendLowes is the most convenient source for metal by the piece in the area. They usually have a good variety and good stock of steel and aluminum rod, angle, and flat bars. 6 feet of 1/4-inch weldable steel rod is a useful starting material for a variety of projects.

Good Purchase
Would RecommendThis product is perfect for my use. I made a gift wrap center and am using the rolled steel to hold all of my ribbons. I had a wood dowel in the past, but it broke easily. This time I decided to use a steel rod and I am very pleased.
