I needed a heat cord to protect a 3-foot hydrant (that doesn't drain properly) during very cold weather. I thought this would be similar to the old-style heat tapes that simply wrapped around a pipe. It is not. The installation instructions are very specific and do not allow wrapping or overlapping. They also require insulation around the product once it is installed.
