Shop Vacs Are NOT enough!

Okay, I did a lot of watching Youtube videos and reading reviews so I went ahead and purchased one. Try as I may I couldn't get the snipe under control plus cranking down the head there was some clicking and thumping as it went down with some drops along the way. BUT, the biggest problem was a shop vac, even my new powerful one was not enough to clear the chips away not to mention the bag inside filled very fast. Come to find out I need to spend more money on a more powerful dust collection ...

Armature replaced twice

Purchased three yeas ago for remodeling project in Belize. Brought it with me and it quit working after feeding third piece of hardwood. Authorized DeWalt repair here in Belize diagnosed problem as armature which I ordered from the states and brought back for their installation. Four pieces of hardwood later it stopped again and once again diagnosed as faulty armature. At over $200, plus shipping, handling, customs and tax plus installation repair is not cost effective.

Poor experience

I love all things Dewalt tools... Drills, drivers, table saws, miter saws. This is the only Dewalt tool that I strongly dislike. I picked up my first Dewalt planer 1 year ago. Great planer, lousy dust/chip management

I have had this planer for 2 years now and have really enjoyed the results. I have run cocobolo, hickory, cedar, pine, red and white oak, walnut, wenge, etc. In other words, just about every type of wood available. However, like so many others, the dust/chip management is atrocious. I don’t have a true dust collection system, but do use my shop vac, with cyclone separator, whenever I plane wood. I've had my DeWalt planer model DW734 for a few years and it's always worked great. For some unknown reason now you can't raise the height adjustment. You can raise it about 2 inches but then you can't turn the depth adjustment. And when you try to lock the head lock lever it pops back up.mr

2 Years And No Issues

I bought this at the big box store as I needed a planer that I hoped would save a lot of time for me. I make cutting boards and signs. I've run hard maple, padauk, purple heart, black walnut, pines, and many other species of lumber through this machine. Falling apart before first use

Trying to plane a 20X20 area of hard wood brazilian decking and already went through 2 sets of blades and now the motor is bouncing up and down. Looks like the screws holding it onto the house have come loose. Of course I cant find a service manual on this worthless site and i'm wasting my day trying to figure out how to repair this thing instead of working.

What A Mess

Though I like the planer for the job it does planing boards and doing it accurately, I absolutely HATE the dust collection design. Apparently the designer was one of the 1st or 2nd graders of one of the managers. Did anyone test this out before selling this product? The collector is horrible. I've tried almost every conceivable way of ensuring that the chips get pulled out and don't clog so bad that the majority of the chips come back out the front. WHAT A STINKING MESS THIS MAKES! Simply amazing

So I have been using this to recondition some old wood that has a lot of character for use in a piece of furniture. I contemplated getting the bigger model, but honestly the 96 cpi on this thing gets the job done just fine. Good cuts (as with all planers, don't get greedy) and snipe is nonexistent if you set everything up right. If you need a solid planer for anything beyond simple tasks, this is your tool.

i went through 2 of these in about 4 months.. Lowes was good to me after talking to a manager after the first one but seemed a bit hostile after second one.. my problem with this planner is it eventually will stop auto feeding and spin marks onto your nice finish making you to remove more material to get the spin marks out.. and what finally made me return it was when the adjustment handle on top became hard to turn with nothing in the way..almost like it picked up dirt in the adjustment threads...

Locking mechanism is great.

First planer was damaged in shipping - returned to Lowes before use for complete refund. Second is SOO much better than HF. Hardly taxed the motor on 10 inch hickory. Came out baby butt smooth.

Great planer for a great price...

Great price for a great planer. Setup and ready to go right out of the box. This is my first planer purchase and a little nervous but after reading the manual and watching a couple of videos I tried it out and everything went as expected and my chess board project went together perfectly.
