With a metal base, this would not cover the 4x4 and the base at the bottom. However, it worked perfectly with their steel base and Deckorators post support option. That's about 4x the cost of just a chunk of wood and a steel mount *but* it worked perfectly. However, the wood supports are pretty clear about not cutting down the 4x4 to make it fit. Would Not RecommendThere are no instructions. The sleeve has a 1/4 gap on 2 sides and there is no information on how to shim or what to use for adhesive. Even 2 calls to the manufacturer were a waste of time. They don't even know. I will be returning these and the rail 4 kits.
