This was a bit harder than I thought to replace but with a bit of bending on the mounting bracket I was able to first slide it out, replace the wires on the new solenoid as I removed them from the old and then able with the help of a slight bend in the mounting bracket on the new solenoid reinstall it without any issues. Fixed My Issues with my Troybilt Pony 42"

Preparing my mower for the season I realized I had a chore that I had been putting off. I picked up this solenoid and took it home and found the same problems others had due to the design of the placement of the solenoid. I found a work around from taking off any other body parts and after removing the mounting bolts slide the solenoid to the right along the opening until I was able to twist it out. 1999 MTD Yard Machines

Replaced Snapper riding mower solenoid perfectly

Replaced the solenoid on a 20 year old Snapper rear engine riding mower perfectly. Nuts were even the same size. Mine had only 3 wires so I had to use the jumper provided in package to connect the 4th terminal to a solenoid mounting bolt.

All these starter solenoid are essentially all the same for a 12 volt system ,,, this is a 4 terminal and the body mounting metal is not grounded ... which is why this is a 4 terminals .. and you don't need to use the pigtail wire ... if your tractor has a 3 terminal, you can still use this by attaching the pigtail wire to connect to ground on the mounting bracket of this ... just look up what a starter solenoid do and how it works with google... easy to understand if you are electrically ...
