What Customers Are Saying
The log splitter is praised for its powerful performance, able to effortlessly split large, tough logs up to 30 inches in diameter. The vertical splitting feature is appreciated as a back-saver. Reviewers report the splitter is efficient, able to quickly process several cords of wood, including hard woods like oak and cottonwood. The hydraulics are described as smooth and powerful. While a few minor issues were noted, the overall sentiment is that the log splitter is an excellent, highly capable machine that makes wood splitting easy, especially for those with physical limitations or large wood-burning needs.

Would Recommendi've had this unit for over 20 years and had to do some welding on it but still using it works just fine would buy this again works great lot of splitting power left never touched the motor for repairs very powerful unit
1000 cords and no problem so far
Would RecommendI use this splitter commercially even though i should not , have had it 7 years and have about a 1000 cords thru it and no problems so far , would buy again if they sold them , only doen side is the cycle time , 19 sec is pretty slow but if you want a faster cycle time you will be spending about another grand for a nicer splitter like eastonmade or timberwolf , wish it had a bigger gas tank , but i use a 8 gallon boat tank which works fine for me , added a hour meter and have alittle over a 1000...
27 Ton log splitter - Troy Bilt
Would RecommendExcellent wood splitter, have had mine over 10 years and never have had an issue/problem. I like the Honda engine, powerful and low gas consumption for the job its handling. If your thinking about a splitter this is the one. I have split many cords of oak hardwood, including knotty hardwood and it will split it all. Also it pulls well behind an ATV or tractor with its hitch. Mine runs as well today as it did over 10 years ago.
Breaks constantly
Would Not RecommendThis is by far the worst log splitter I've ever owned. I bought the extended warranty plan, but in this area is worth practically nothing. There are no qualified shops in the area, and after me doing the legwork, found a local hardware store to perform the work. They aren't much of a solution. 2-4 month wait times after they receive it and once they do, they didn't finish the job, and I had to complain to have them fix it right. The service contract also said they would pick it up and drop it of...
Excellent.
Would RecommendHave owned mine for 6 years. It always starts quickly and the Honda engine doen't use a lot f fuel. Have split more than 20 cords. Have split maple cherry, black walnut and birch trees 24-28 inches in diameter and tulip trees upt 38 inches in diameter. I highly recommend it.
27ton Troy Bilt
Would RecommendI've had my splitter for about 3 years without any problems at all. It gets moderate use but fires up after a couple pulls and has never failed to split whatever size diameter log I put it through. For the wood burning homeowner this is a perfect size and power. 5 stars from me.
All you need
Would RecommendWrapping up my 2nd season with this splitter, and it's done all I need it to do. Split about 7 cords the first season; over 20 cords the second season. I've split logs up to about 30" diameter with no problem (have to split off center with larger logs). It will go through twisty wood and wet wood with ease. I don't see any reason to get anything with a heavier tonnage rating - this unit doesn't seem to have any limits. I specifically paid a little more for this splitter because I wanted the Hon...
Tuff splitter
Would RecommendPushed through wet oak, and cut right through knots , insane power, my last splitter was on a 3 put hitch run from a 50 hp diesel farm tractor. No comparison this Troy billt has way more power and splits much faster. Definitely worth the money. Haven't had a log in it it has not split, some took two people to load on splitter, right through it like hot butter. I am impressed. Just wish I could find a 4 way wedge for it made for it by Troy bilt .
poor design
Would Not RecommendFor some reason Troy-Bilt thought it would be a good idea to rest the log cradle on the hydraulic hose. This of course will eventually severe the hose and poor fluid all over the ground. The flat I beam is another poor choice not having a trough to lay the log in as it will just roll off on to your foot or break the plastic fender. The Honda engine is a plus, it sees to be the good part on this splitter.
Log Splitter
Would RecommendSo I went to Home Depot to buy a splitter from them because it had a Honda engine. It was a 25ton Cub Cadet for around $1400. That was more money then i wanted to spend but was the only one i could find with a Honda engine. So after talking with the manager about taking 10% off the price to match a Lowes coupon and not getting anywhere I decided to get back online to see what else I could find. Boy am I glad I did! I found the Troy Bilt at Lowes for around $1200 and it was a 27ton with the Honda...
Towed it home and split a cord of wood
Would Not RecommendThe only thing the splitter needed was a quart of Dextron 3 fluid.

Honda 5.5 hp but a Honda
Would RecommendMy wife can start it ...just keep fresh gas in it which is not a problem because it has a small tank for the gas sipping engine. Loaded in the back of truck as I am not comfortable pulling on the road , says 45mph or less... hook to ATV with 2" ball
27 ton Troy Built
Would Not RecommendThe log splitter worked fine for about three years and the pump went,. cost me $650. for the repair. I sold the log splitter after one year of use and now looking to purchase a 34 ton. i used the 27 ton for personal only and found it lacked power in some cases. i splitt about 10 to 15 cords a year.
GVC160 27 ton gas log splitter
Would Not RecommendI have now read a number of comments, most of them giving positive marks too this log splitter. However, I see no comment relating to the difficulty of changing oil on this machine. Following the manufacturer's advice you should change oil and your are told by the handbook that you should simply tilt the engine toward the oil filler neck to empty the oil! How on earth do you do that withe the engine solidly attached and the oil filter neck on the wrong side for easy access? Is the manufacturer p...
Missing parts. s
Would RecommendAfter transferred log splitter some six hours later to a hunting camp in Va. Still in the crate unloaded to assemble we discover the hydraulic filter and its fittings were not on the unit. The hose was just hanging lose .A sticker was placed on the machine with the lowes maintenance number. Also it was written all the new troy bilt log splitter needed was gas and it was ready to go. Now I'm twelve hours driving time away from home with out a filter or tank to filter attachment and low on hydraul...

I'm Impressed with This Splitter
Would RecommendI did my research, read the reviews and the Q&As and had a few minor concerns before purchase, but decided this splitter would be adequate for my needs and I have split about a cord of green and dry ash. Generally I'm very pleased with this splitter and and complaints are very minor. This is one of those tools that performs the way you want and expect it to without compromise and the $1300 price point seems fair. I enthusiastically recommend it. Most of my original concerns which which I note be...

Moderately satisfied
Would RecommendLove the Honda motor. Starts and runs great. As far as the splitter's hydraulic control valve goes the automatic return feature began malfunctioning the first day I used it. Also the splitters foot where you stand up your firewood could have been larger. You have to hold large pieces in place to keep them positioned correctly or they will tilt away from the main beam. Also as the wedge passes through the wood watch out for the large bolt that holds the wedge in place. It will catch your thumb. I...

Works Great
Would RecommendI used it for a couple days and it worked great. I split hickory that was about 2 feet wide and have been told hickory is hard to split. The hickory wood is stringy but I didn't have any problem with it. It starts very easy and runs quite a while on a tank of gas. I wish I could get a 4 way splitter wedge for it.

Better Than Home Depot
Would RecommendWe purchased this log splitter after an unfortunate incident with a log splitter bought from Home Depot. The wheels had plastic bearings and were destroyed/smoked halfway through our ride home! This log splitter is much better quality for quite a bit less money than Home Depot's version. Better motor, better quality & better wheels! Very pleased with the way it splits wood too. It will big a huge help when we do finally cut up all the wood from cutting down multiple trees. Thank You Lowe's!!

So easy!
Would RecommendSo easy to start!! What a great product! I really like the fact that I can split wood vertically or in the horizontal mode, and it isn't that hard to change between the two. I started to buy the cover for the machine, than realized how nicely it fit in the storage that I already had. I split all the winter's wood in less than two days. The best part was starting the engine. I could pull the cord with two fingers and it usually started on the first pull. It isn't loud, and doesn't give off fumes....
