What Customers Are Saying
This handgun safe has a well-documented issue with the gas strut mechanism that often fails after a couple years of use, making the safe difficult or impossible to open. While the safe has positive features like quiet operation and build quality when functioning properly, the consistent reports of the gas strut failure undermine the product's reliability and usability. Overall, the consensus is that this safe has a critical design flaw that significantly impacts its core purpose.

Would RecommendI like the capacity and padding in this safe but the combo mechanism should allow digits 0-9

Strut Failure
Would Not RecommendVery disappointed that my safe, which I have loved, now has a dead strut. Won’t spring open and is now a liability in an emergency. I see that this is now a common and known issue. I wish that the company would step up and take care of this known issue.

Easy to Use
Would RecommendQuick installation with immediate access in the event of a home invasion. I would have given you 5 starts but the gas strut is starting to fail after only 4 years & I rarely access it.

Excellent Safe for the Price!
Would RecommendThis safe is awesome! It’s just what I have been needing for my EDC pistol storage/home defense safe. It comfortably fits a Springfield Armory XDs and 2 mags. The pistol and 2 mags pretty much take up all the space but since I’ve only got one pistol I don’t need/want anything bigger! The quality of construction is very good. It’s heavy and solid with quality smooth locks. The lid is made out of about 1/4” steel and is solid. Definitely not something that you could just walk off with and nobody...

Should be a recall - Gas Strut Ussue
Would Not RecommendLike many other reviewers my gas strut failed shortly after warranty expiration and it won’t power open. Have to use fingernails to open. With all of the other reviews saying similar, this is obviously a defective product that Sentry should be ashamed of selling. This is robbery.

Strut failure
Would Not RecommendI’ve seen this mention on several websites, that the strut fails to open lid. I would expect that they should acknowledge this failure. My strut failed 5 months after purchase. It has the potential to be an outstanding safe, but for the strut. It’s critical that we should be able to rely on this product in a life-threatening situation. However, that is not the case. Extremely disappointed.

Works great for a few years!
Would Not RecommendThis safe worked great for a couple of years. The gas piston that opens the lid has now failed. The warranty is limited and short. Electronics work great and are still working. I have to pry the safe open in the dark if I need to get to my gun.

The perfect gun storage to keep small kids out
Would RecommendSuper intuitive and simple to use. Works great to keep out small kids. However, this could be easily violated by teens or adults. Gas strut failed almost immediately. Too bad, as it was otherwise the perfect every day safe to put away your daily carry or l keep your bedside gun. Would easily be a 5 except for strut failure. I have 2 and still think they are better than most others.

gas strut is junk
Would Not Recommenddecent safe except that the gas strut that lifts the door fails fairly soon after buying.

I have 3 of these safes and 5 others from Sentry.
I have 3 of the QAP1E safes. Are there better safes? Probably. They also probably cost a lot more. My only complaint is after several years the older safes don't spring open as well as they used to. I fixed this by adding a PopSocket to the safe so I can be sure to get it open when the latch releases.

Good safe for a little while Gas strut is garbage
Would Not RecommendPerfect size for my firearm.Easy to open for quick access even when not looking, for a while. Gave it 2 stars only because it does keep out of the hands of little ones. Soon the lid started slowing down when you open. Now, it will unlock but I have to mess with the lid to get to even open. This totally defeats the purpose of this safe for me. If I need to defend my home and family, this will put us in jeopardy.

Quality safe, quick access
Would RecommendBetter than I thought it would be. Safe seems real sturdy and the door is pretty quick to open which is idea for situations where quickness matters.

Durable and functional
Would RecommendOverall I like this pistol safe. It’s not too heavy and feels very solid. The case is large, but slim enough to sit on night table. I placed a small lamp on top. I didn’t want to place in drawer because it would take too much time to get out in an emergency. Entering the pass code is very easy on the large lighted keypad.. The only thing I don’t like is the key access. The key is too short and stubby to use in an emergency. You have to fuss too much to get it in the key slot. I wish ...
