Disappointed

The 1st step worked well and had our grass growing great! Once we put the 2nd step on, all of our grass turned brown and hay-like. Completely killed it.

Works fine. No dust, Doesn't clump or kill grass

I am putting in this review to balance out some of the bad ones here. First of all, There is little to zero dust. The fertilizer did not clump or clog my spreader. The weed killer did not kill my lawn or damage it in any way. The instructions are very specific. The grass should be wet and not mowed recently but should also not be tall enough to touch the bottom of the spreader. It should be applied 4 to 6 weeks after step one and not on any of several grass types listed on the bag. I did all ...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the 4 step system for more than 20 years. It's a proven product. Very easy to use. Follow the instructions for what setting to use on your spreader. We haven't had weeds in years. I have my neighbors using it as well. They kept asking me how the yard looks so good.

Step 2 very dusty and turned lawn brown

I have been using the 4 step program for the past 10 years and have nothing but good results up to this point. I bought this product as part of 4 step program, and I did not have any problems with Step 1. When I opened the Step 2 bag to put into the spreader it was very dusty and seemed to be powder instead of granules. It continually clogged up the rotary spreader and after application my yard has brown spots.

Step 2 very dusty and caused browning

I have used the Step 4 program for at least the past 10 years and this year my Step 1 was fine, but Step 2 was not right. The Step 2 product was not granules at all when I put it into my rotary spreader, it was very fine and a large amount of dust. It did not seem to feed very well through the spreader and kept clogging up the spreader. After applying it, my lawn seemed to turn brown in spots and looks worse than before application.

Step 2 destroyed my lawn

Scotts step 2 destroyed my golf course quality lawn. Read and applied exactly as instructed and watered lawn properly.

Burned grass

I have used this product for many many years on my lawn however, this time it burned my lawn in a lot of spots. Maybe they change the formula I don’t know, but I think twice before using step two again.

Results remain to be seen

Where does all this dust come from? I had to wear face mask during application and it was a calm day.

So disappointed this year

I have used the Step 4 program for at least the past 8-10 years. Was always very satisfied with it. Always received compliments about my lawn from the neighbors. This season ,after applying Step 2 as directed and with Scotts own rotary spreader along with the recommended settings, I have several burn marks on my lawn. I am so upset because I have no idea how to even repair this now. I can send photos if needed.

NEVER AGAIN

Cannot recommend this product. Bought this product as part of 4 step program, and I was very happy with step 1. Step 2 however, is another story. Instructions say to apply on a calm day. THEY MEAN IT!!! Product appears to be 75% dust. ANY hint of wind spreads dust everywhere! Label says not to allow particles or dust to come into contact with people. I found it impossible to do this using a hand held spreader. Finished applying product, and my face and arms burn.

Great on dandelions but not the clover

I have used this product for 20+ years. Works great on dandelions. Clover… not so good, it has never touched any clover. I have even tried putting extra on the clover, doesn’t kill it and never has.

Great program

Just applied again after year 3 of using the program. Renewed lawn and neighbors are asking me what’s up with your lawn,it’s beautiful. Think I have a green thumb because they have never seen our lawn look so good!!! Thank you Scotts!!!!

Works well but don’t overfeed

I got this on a bit late and already had a fair amount of post-emergent clover. The clover is gone after two weeks. However, I made the mistake of applying extra to a few areas where there was a lot of cover. Clover is now gone but I have some mild burning of the grass in those areas. Apply as directed and don’t overlap too much with the spreader or over-apply, or you could get brown patches. Where applied as directed my lawn looks great and the clover did get under control.

Used Step 2..Step 3 - Plant New Lawn

Step 2 burnt my beautiful lush lawn. Followed bag instructions. Something not right. I saw another comment here that sounded exactly like my experience. Is there something you're not telling us?

Burned my lawn!!

I applied Scotts Step 1 in March and my lawn look GREAT. I applied Scotts Step in mid-May and it burned my lawn. Followed instructions on bag; spreader settings etc. Pretty disappointing, I HAD a beautiful lawn.

Get a weed free lawn using this product!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts step 2 weed control fertilizer works like a charm. My yard was full of dandelions prior to using this product. I won't be using any other brands anymore! My yard is looking great and i do not need to feel embarrassed inviting friends over for backyard BBQ's anymore.

Easy and effective to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is easy to use on a planned lawn maintenance schedule, and effectiveness is typical of Scotts Premium Lawn Care products. I would use this well after applying Turf Builder fertilizer with Halts weed control, to take care of any weeds that managed to emerge before the anti-germination ingredient had done its job.

I just used step 2 last week and now I have burn patches and track marks from the spreader. So upset after having spent the last two months working on lawn

Very disappointed!!

After being persuaded to try the 4 step program by ACE employees I gave it a go. I did read the 1 star entries before I bought the 4 step program but I figured they obviously didn't follow the instructions. I followed the instructions to the letter, Step 1 was A GREAT success, I got so many compliments and I was even pushing the 4 step program myself I couldn't wait to use step 2.The day came to finally apply step 2 and within 1 week my yard was burned in several areas, I was so upset.
