Local Lowes did not stock the black the first time I purchased - I think the black looks cleaner but either way - they do the trick. Water seems to soak in well over them - and it stops my chickens from digging in the mulch around the trees I planted and exposing the roots/making a fantastic mess. They seem like they are durable and will last a long time. I will need to trim the center ring as the trees grow.
