Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
The cooler is well-constructed and keeps contents cold for a long time. However, many users report issues with the zipper, which is difficult to operate and often breaks after limited use. Some also find the backpack straps uncomfortable for carrying the cooler for extended periods. While the cooler functions well as an insulated container, the backpack design seems to be the main source of dissatisfaction.

It’s ok. Not practical as a backpack. Just feels weird. And actually like it’s too small for a backpack. I kept it though and ordered the 50can soft cooler in the camo.

Zipper Failure
I own three regular soft bag coolers and they have all been great! However, the backpack cooler zipper failed after about two years. Stored in basement and lubricated zipper I would not recommend this backpack cooler

I wrote a review earlier today, but it is gone. So I’ll re write it. I have had the backpack cooler for almost a year and tried to like it, but each time I’ve used it I’ve been frustrated with the backpack straps. It is terribly uncomfortable once you get it on. Seems to me like the straps should be mounted higher. If you are looking for a backpack cooler, keep looking, you won’t be happy with this one.

I have owned one of these for about a year and it is a terrible backpack. I’m actually surprised they are still making them. If you are looking for a cooler to use with backpack straps keep looking, this one will disappoint you.

Love the style but…
The style is perfect and convenient with multiple strap carrying options. The zipper lasted about a year and a half before it started coming off track and eating away at the rubber seal. Wish it last longer because I love this cooler.

Backpack
Worked great until zipper failed. Have now bought another brand and has a magnetic closure. Could have saved myself from buying 2 coolers if I would have just bought other brand first. Great coolers poor zipper.

Zipper fails
Purchased in July and probably used less than 20 times and zipper failed already. I also had a 20 pack cooler zipper fails but that one last over a year and had heavy use. Pretty disappointed in this one since the cooler holds plenty and worked when getting complete seal. Now the lid won’t seal because of the zipper fail

Zippers, Zippers, Zippers
R and D needs to put their attention to the zipper. It is a robust zipper and a crucial part of the cooler but the zipper head itself where the zipper pull attaches is weak. Once the pull attachment breaks the zipper and cooler is useless unless you use a pair of vice grips. I used the supplied zipper grease regularly. I caught it on this cooler before it broke entirely and added JB weld to secure a metal O ring pull. The cooler is a beast and it keeps items cool for long periods. This is my sec...

Uncomfortable
Uncomfortable to carry in your back. The zipper is hard to use, and the pull just snapped off after having it a little over a year. Keeps things cold a long time though. Just disappointed it broke and isn’t comfortable to use as intended

Had high hopes....
Really wanted to love this backpack cooler as it would be great for all of our kids baseball games but it keeps nothing cold. Super frustrating. Ice packs and frozen waters melt quickly.

Good Cooler with a weak zipper
This is my second BP cooler from RTIC. This one is a warranty replacement for my first one. Both zippers have failed on these. Both zipper came apart. The cooler is 'out of warranty' and there is no repair alternative. I think this is a bad policy on a high end cooler. Can't say that I'll replace it with another RTIC cooler given this. There are competitors with lifetime warranties that I think I will go with.

Zipper fails and it becomes useless
Had this for 2 years. Only used it a total of 4 times. Used it 2 weeks ago and the zipper failed. Yes I kept up with the grease for the zipper. Now I have an expensive bag that doesn’t or can’t be used for the cold retention. Buyer beware.

Uncomfortable & Zipper Issues
The zipper on the cooler is difficult to open and broke after only a few uses. The backpack is uncomfortable and fits awkwardly against your back. Once you tighten the backpack straps it sets on the very top of your back rather than the center. I purchased the cooler for short hikes and bike rides, but it's too uncomfortable to use for those purposes. It does do a good job of keeping items cold for long periods of time. Unfortunately, I had buy a second more expensive backpack cooler from a comp...

Fantastic soft-sided cooler
We've had this cooler for almost 3 years now with heavy summer usage and it's still holding up as it did new. Zipper breaks in nicely with using the lubricant stick. We did get the medium ice packs as they seemed the smart way to go and to help save space. We put one on the bottom products in the middle with some ice, and sometimes add the top pack and sometimes go without to 2nd ice pack, depending on how much we stuff into it for long days on the boat. Never any issues with leakage or items g...

Faulty zipper handle
We purchased our backpack cooler last year in June (2023) and loved our cooler until this morning. My husband went to close the cool tabs the T handle for the zipper completely snapped off. We used our cooler when we travel to the beach. Good thing today is the last day in FL, because that would have made for a very cray trip getting out drinks I. Our cooler the whole weekend. Now we are stuck with a broken cooler that was already hard to zip open and shut
