Best old work bar box, period
Would RecommendWorked as intended. The mounting bracket to hold the box to the round bar is easy to install by twisting in pre-mounted screws vs other brands with a square shape bar and having to try and locate the screw holes blind. My new favorite bar box.

Package weight capacity of 70lb fan is deceptive.
Would Not RecommendPurchased this to install a 52" fan. the package states ceiling fans up to 70lbs. (with a properly rated box) The assumption by most people would logically be that the box included meets that rating. The box that came in the package is stamped in small letters in the interior that it is only rated for a 35lb fan. It works really well and installation is easy, but an inattentive DIY homeowner could very easily put too heavy of a device on it.
It clearly states that it can be used with fans up to 70 LBS when used with 16” centers, and if used on 24” centers, then the max fan weight is 35 LB...

Would RecommendSurprisingly stout. Wasn't sure on this versus the usual "push 2 joists apart" style, but took a gamble, and this thing is solid. I did the "new construction" mount, on old work, and my only complaint is it's hard to get it flush that way. Mine is about 1/4-1/2" proud of the drywall. Should have had the wife hold it from below. It gave me no indication it can't hold a fan, as I was hanging a fan off it, including forgetting the remote control, and fighting that a bit.

Would RecommendEasy to install, strong, inexpensive. If you're goingbto spend big bucks on a beautiful light, chandelier, etc. this is great insurance it will stay where you put it! Holds up to 240 lbs. It's not worth skimping and use just 2 x 4's when this product is so inexpensive.
