What Customers Are Saying

Customers praise this shovel for its lightweight design and perfect sizing for young children ages 3-10, noting it encourages outdoor participation and learning. However, many report significant durability concerns, with the shovel bending or breaking during light digging, even in soft soil. While some find it adequate for raised-bed gardening or sand play, most reviewers emphasize it functions only for very gentle use. Overall, customers view it as suitable for toddlers in controlled settings but warn against expecting real digging capability.

Garbage

Would Not Recommend

Spend the extra $ and get a decent shovel. Not durable for anything, even if a child is using it. Sadly already in the trash.

It's lightweight but an actual shovel

Would Recommend

Works as an actual shovel, but only for super-lightweight tasks. I'm using it as a "stirrer" for a balcony compost box, but it's really made for kids. Don't try to use it to dig out anything that isn't lightweight (i.e. dry sand or loose/dry soil: ok, wet sand or packed/wet soil: not ok).

Not very sturdy

Would Not Recommend

The metal is not very sturdy so when I dig into the ground it wobbles instead of going straight into the dirt.

Good Supervised Kids Tool

Would Recommend

Perfect size for a toddler. It seems to be good enough quality to last for some time. Time will tell if it can handle a toddler banging it around.

Don't expect much

Would Recommend

It's a $5 shovel. Don't expect it to hold up to any abuse. I bought it to use as a prop in my Halloween cemetery, but I imagine my 5 year old will end up using it to "help" me with yardwork.

Bent on first use at beach

Would Not Recommend

Bought for use at the beach. It bent on the FIRST shovel full of sand!! Very poor design and low quality.

Great for small transfer jobs

Would Recommend

Love small size and weight but it does seem to be made for a kid. I used it successfully for small potting type jobs rather than actual digging holes. If you over tax it it breaks instantly. Just know its limits.
