Aluminum is a highly reactive metal. Usually it isn't a huge issue because the initial oxide layer is so tough. All bets are off when you start mixing metals, like copper alloys and an electrolyte, like tap water. The aluminum will galvanically react with copper and brass, expanding into a corroded mess.
