Ratings & Reviews for Miracle-Gro Evergreen 12-Count Continuous Release Tree Food Spikes

What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise these fertilizer spikes for delivering visible improvements in tree and shrub health, with many reporting recovery from stress, frost damage, and deer browsing. The slow-release formula provides consistent nutrition through seasons, requiring minimal effort—most appreciate the simplicity of application and ability to fertilize just once or twice yearly. However, some report durability issues: plastic caps split or break easily, and spikes crumble when driven into hard soil, with users recommending pre-drilling to avoid damage. A few note no noticeable difference in tree health. Despite these concerns, most customers consider the product highly effective and convenient.

Great product that is time saving
Would RecommendI use these twice a year on my evergreen holly shrubs. Takes only a few minutes to get them into the ground and then that's all the fertilizing I have to do for six months. I have been well pleased with the time release results.

Caps Not Durable
Would Not RecommendThe spikes seem to be similar to Jobe spikes. But the caps used to protect the stakes when driving them into the ground are not as durable.

Blue spruce damage
I'm not certain why but my blue spruce suffered damage on a good sized area on the bottom third of the tree after I started using these. It takes 3 spikes and the damage is in the 1/3rd on the sunny side where one spike goes. Nobody could tell me what was wrong so it wasn't until I read these reviews & saw other comments of blue spruce damage that I wondered if it wasn't from the stakes. Again, not sure, just wanted to warn.

Works, but brittle.
Would RecommendMy soil is likely very compact, so I don't know if I can entirely fault the spikes themselves. But they did smash when trying to get them in, and the plastic cap provided didn't really fit well, and broke on the first spike. So I gave it 4/5 stars. Since there ARE fertilizers that aren't spikes, even miracle grow brand, to choose from. If you choose these, its because you want to use them as they're intended. BUT I went ahead and used my small gardening auger to get it under ground and the ferti...
