What Customers Are Saying
The Loctite Rust Neutralizer appears to be a mixed product in terms of effectiveness. Many users reported it successfully neutralized and removed rust, leaving a smooth, paintable surface. However, some found it did not perform as promised, with the rust not turning black or the product stopping midway through use. Proper application, including multiple coats if needed, and using an oil-based paint afterwards, seems important for achieving satisfactory results, especially with more severe rust.

Would RecommendOut of ever product out there in stores by far this is it. Used product on Olympic free weights that needed light rust removal. I was able to paint directly over the original loctite rust removal spray in 24 hours with rust oleum paint. Back in action within 48 hours. I would never use any other product
Worthless
Would Not RecommendThe product description says "milky white latex". Mine came out the can clear even after shaking as instructions stated. Just laid on the rust and never did anything. The rust is still brown and the product dried up with no results whatsoever.
Good For Light Rust
Would RecommendIt works as described on "light" rust, but it's stated clearly on the front on the can for a reason. If you have heavy rust, go with the naval jelly. My most recent project had both. The light rust turned black as described in other reviews, but the heavy rust just got a little darker. That might be enough to neutralize it, but only time will tell.
Works as Advertised

Loctite rust neutralizer performs well
Would RecommendWe are repeat users of this neutralizer for our personal projects and our business!
Tried others, this is the best one of them
Would RecommendSo most of the 4 different ones I have tried are about the same, except for Rustolium (too thick and not much reaction). I like this one the best as it spays nice and coats very even. Perhaps because it is tinner and seems to have more phosphoric acid in it. I recommend a light coat as directed as it really does react to rust well and is slow to dry (a Plus). Do clean the loose rust so that it can get and/or coat the metal. Nice black finish when done. Still treats the metal even when I use a wi...
BEWARE -you must use OIL-BASED paint as topcoat.
Would Not RecommendLoctite Extend Rust Remover is advertised as being paintable. Unfortunately, Lowe's FAILS to disclose that the topcoat paint MUST be OIL-BASED -- it CANNOT be acrylic nor zinc-based paint -- a fact that makes this product useless to me and now I have to return it which wastes my time. Lowe's SHOULD INCLUDE THE INSTRUCTIONS or show the back of the bottle so we can enlarge it and read the instructions. Unfortunately, I cannot use this Loctite Extend because the instructions require that

Great Product
Would RecommendI have used several cans of this over the years and there's nothing like it. It soaks into the rust, turns black like glass. Then you can paint over it. I have never seen rust come back after using extend. Great product.
Exceeded shelf life??
Would Not RecommendI bought this product based on two reasons. Previous success when Duro owned Extend and the Loctite brand name. Maybe the product had exceeded shelf life or something because 2 of the 5 cans I bought would not even spray. And I tried to change the nozzle with one from an empty can which worked fine. The other issue is actually my own fault. I thought the product was identical to the Duro product in that it turned black. Wrong, product stays clear so you can still see the freakin rust- how freaki...

Works as promised.
Would RecommendThis product worked just like the can said it would. Followed the instructions and the surface turned black as promised. I only marked it down because of the spray positions of the can. Would like to be able to spray at all angles but for the price, it was worth it
Not Covering As Described
Would Not RecommendI believe Loctite bought this formulation from Duro. I've used the Duro Extend product in the past and the product immediately turned a purple and later a uniform black color (and lasted years). This stuff most of the time when used exactly as directed does not even change color, it stays clear. Which means the entire surface color when you are finished varies depending on the rust you are covering. It looks terrible as a finish coat- now it has to be top coated- another step and expense I wasn'...

Rust killer
Would RecommendThis is excellent to spray on light rust you can't get to with a brush. The loctite liquid is much superior but Lowes does not sell it.
Don't buy
Would Not RecommendWorst product ever. Lowes really needs to get something that works. Was like spraying on a layer of clearcoat over rust. I would NOT recommend this at all. Check the other reviews around the web. I wish I had before I bought this lousy product.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. We are so sorry to hear that our product did not work properly. It sounds like you could have purch...
