What Customers Are Saying
The Kobalt torque wrench offers a range of torque settings and is easy to use, making it suitable for smaller, light-duty tasks. However, some users reported issues with accuracy, particularly at lower torque levels, and a few experienced the wrench breaking bolts. Additionally, the new packaging design was criticized as difficult to open without damaging the case.

Would Not RecommendAlmost broke the plastic cover trying to open the case. Took way too long to get it open then the wrench itself is snap locked into a plastic base that you can’t get your hand inside to pull the wrench out. There’s no way to get your hand on any part of the wrench to remove it from the case. I had to pry it out using another tool that risked scratching the wrench. Now you want me to put it back in the thing I couldn’t get it out of? No thanks I’m returning. Please redesign
Odd storage case, loose part inside
Would Recommend- To open the case, I read Kobalt's reply to the reviewer who could not figure out how to pop the plastic rivet without destroying the clear plastic cover - Once opened, I turned the case upside down to try to get the wrench out. The wrench did not come out, but a small circlip did fall out onto the bench. - I carefully pried the wrench out of the case and looked for any place a circlip might have come from. - There is a small, black pin that holds the ratchet head to the handle (or perhaps i...
Hello, thank you for taking time to write such detailed notes! Please note the torque wrench is covered by a 1-year warranty. If you feel the circl...

Been great for years now
Would RecommendI've got the 3/8 drive and 1/2 drive variants. The 3/8 drive I've had for 10 years now, and the 1/2 drive about 7 years and both have been excellent. I've built several engines, transmissions and differentials with both of them and a lot of steering/suspension work with them as well. I recently just tested calibration on both of them with a newly acquired digital torque adapter and both were still very accurate across the board. Both were within 2 ft lbs of whatever torque I had both set to. Smo...

inch pounds are NOT Ft pounds
Would RecommendI used it to torque the bolts on a plastic BMW valve cover at 96 in pounds (which is 8 ft pound). I cringe when I read it is used for lug nuts, and engine bolts. Max torque is 250 in-pd or 20 ft-pd.
New Packaging is Horrible
Old packaging on these torque wrenches were a closable clamshell design great for storage and keeping the dust off. New case design is extremely poorly done and requires tools not only to remove the plug without snapping the thin acrylic, but also a pry bar just to get the tool out of the blow mold. The spot intended to pull out the tool with your fingers is so narrow even my wife couldn't get it. Tool itself works as intended but now I get to be frustrated every time I pull the thing out of the...

Can't be opened without destroying the case
Would Not RecommendCan't find a way to open it without destroying the case. Taught myself to solve a Rubik's cube when I was 12. (best time under a minute) But I'm not ready to make this case my new conquest/hobby. Yes I can get it out, but only if I break the case. The case is designed for the thieves that try to steal tools. Whereas they've made no effort whatsoever to accommodate the customer who actually buys this product. There's a screw with a rounded head, and a "K" stamped on the top surface where you woul...
Hi Bill, a small flat-head screwdriver should be able to slide under the clear cover near the security pin you mentioned and can be used to pop the p...

Buy in Person
Would Not RecommendTool arrived appearing as if it finally made its way back from Ukraine. Clearly was a return to the store and packaged up and sent out without a care in the world in regards to the customer.

No click, worthless.
Would Not RecommendNo click at all right out of the box. Lowes, stop responding to peoples bad reviews by suggesting they buy your updated 3/8" torque wrench that's 3 x the price with reviews that are even worse.
Did not work, out of the box. No click.
Bent shaft
Would Not RecommendNeeded a torque wrench to 250 ft.-lb. to tigthen pinion nuts. For most applications, thats around 240 ft.-lb. After several uses, I went to put it away in the case and the shaft is now bent.

Solid construction
Would RecommendSolid construction. Ratchet head is well constructed. Other brands I looked at had open snap ring in the ratchet head, flimsy, etc. The torque adjusting ring was very solid. I use to correctly torque lug nuts and suspension parts.
