It's not to big for doing small projects. You can hold it more easier and straighter than you can with the 12" combination square. It's also small enough to use in small places.

Tested and it is square, but there is not a way to adjust it if it was not. Some combination squares you can adjust if they are off or become off due to wear and tear.
