Would RecommendI bought this when my son got a hold of my old one and broke it. I was hoping to find something with a metal handle so the same problem wouldn't happen again. No luck, some in the store had metal bodies but all had plastic handles. I gave up, bought this fairly inexpensive model, and used it with no major problems. I wish they'd loaded it with better string, though. The lines it makes are pretty thick.
Simple is best.
Would RecommendI've been a rough carpenter for over 30 years and I've found that simple works. All the bells and whistles on some of the other chalk lines fail or are a nuisance at some point but these are simple and tough and everything you need.

Would Not RecommendTried to use this chalk line the first day I bought it. Filled it with chalk, pulled the line out, and wound it back in a few times to coat the string. For some reason the string never would coat very well, like the string was wax-coated or something. The first two lines were spotty at best. On the third line I snapped, I went to pull the string out and it froze up, and that was it. Will probably take it apart and try to fix it, but it ruined a day of production while I went and got another chal...
Cheap plastic, dropped and it broke
