Ratings & Reviews for IRWIN 1/4-in Hex Quick Connect 12-in Drill Bit Extension
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
The product is generally well-made and useful for extending the reach of drill bits, with a sturdy construction and balanced design. However, some customers reported issues with the set screws, which can split or round out, making the bit difficult to remove. Additionally, the extension may not be suitable for use in a drill press due to safety concerns. Overall, the product's performance is satisfactory for most users, but the set screw problems are a notable drawback.

Extension worked as advirtised
This Irwin 1/4” drill bit extension was just what I needed. I needed an extension that the shaft portion would fit through a 5/16” hole. The shaft on this extension was just small enough to fit. Everything else about the product worked as advertised for me. I was drilling in soft wood and had no problems. I would recommend this product.

1/4" --- one size too small for my application.
Would Not RecommendDid not work for polishing and buffing pads because the 1/4" hex socket did not fit any of the polishing mandrels I have which seem to be 5/16". No tool companies seem to make this size for polishing applications. Thus I had to return it.

Good reaching item that is stiff and strong enough
Would RecommendI purchased this as a replacement to other quick release extensions that broke. This item is much more secure and doesn't seem like it will break or lose the bit when pulling out. Good choice and the extra minute to screw in the bit is worth the effort.

Would Recommendmounting a wind ornament into an old tree trunk..needed to drill down deep enough to fully submerge the prongs that are meant to go in the ground. worked perfectly

Very handy and well built tool, but
Would RecommendHad to drill a hole where I was 8"-10" from where I could get the drill to it. See pic. So I looked into this. Its well built and easy to use and set up. Potential problem, there are two types of drill bits. Plain ones and those that are quick release. See second pic. The problem with a regular bit is that when inserted into the extender, it does not center, unless it is really thick. See third picture. But if you use the quick release bits with the thicker attachment, it centers nicely. Luckily...
Perfect for the Job
Would RecommendThis extension works as it was intended! I was able to drill through (3) three 2x4 headers in order to get my cables where I needed them! Thanks Irwin!

Would RecommendI have always trusted Irwin tools, bought and used this extension the same day, drilled several holes thru 10 inch concrete block using a shorter masonry bit did a great job , it held on to the bit , i'm a happy camper in that I didn't loose the bit or extension
