Would RecommendAlthough expensive, it works well. I have drilled about 100 holes so far, through deep ice and haven't had any issues. Blades are very sharp. Battery lasts a long time. Weight is light. I would get the steel again over the composite, don't think the weight difference is substantial.

My new ION is a 10 inch not an 8 inch as you have
Would RecommendIt is great auger and lighter than my old 10 in ION auger which was a 10 inch with a metal bit.. It does well on one battery to drill many holes even through 28 inches of ice. I gave my old ION to my son and it will last him many years I am sure. He is 20 years younger than me and handle the weight better than me. I would recommend this ION to anyone looking to get a powerful lightweight auger even with the 10 inch bit.

Would RecommendA great purchase. Does the job perfectly. The blades are SUPER sharp and cut through 18”plus of ice without difficulty. The tool is easy to set up and use. I also purchased the quick connect kit with the ice anchor adaptor so I could use the power head to drill my ice anchors in and out. Being able to separate the auger bit while dragging my loaded sled across the ice made packing in and out easier.
