Ratings & Reviews for Hitachi 4-Gallon Portable Electric 135 PSI Twin Stack Air Compressor
Ratings may include incentivized customer reviews.
What Customers Are Saying
Customers overwhelmingly praise this compressor for its reliability, quiet operation, and ability to handle multiple framing and finish nailers simultaneously without overheating. Most highlight its compact, lightweight design, quick recovery time, and consistent air pressure maintenance, with many noting the oil-lubricated cast iron pump ensures durability. Reviewers consistently report it outperforms larger, more expensive models for residential and light commercial use. A few mention the oil dipstick design is awkward and tank drain valves are poorly positioned, but these minor issues are vastly outweighed by strong overall satisfaction and value.

Would Not RecommendProduct's thermo guage kept tripping and stopping the motor. And after following all troubleshooting steps in the manual, the device still didn't work. A big disappointment for a product not even 3 months old. Also, the lever for both drain valves broke off and I had to open and close them with a pair of pliers. Very poor quality. I borrowed a neighbors compressor so I wouldn't lose a free weekend to be productive and I quickly realized I made a bad choice in compressors. His Bostitch was much b...
{{JUST OKAY}} Hitachi Twin Tank Air Compressor
Would Not RecommendAir coupler leaked on day one. $3.00 part, but lost 2 hours driving and replacing. Did not bother with warranty. As mentioned, the tank drains are awkward, but tilting and rolling the compressor around allows you to drain the tanks which I did every day. When using a frame nailer it kept up when nailing wall studs to plate because you would shoot two nails and move, but when nailing headers & beams you could shoot 6-8 nails and then have to wait a minute or so or the nails would not fully penetr...
Junk
Would Not RecommendUnless you are close to the panel, it will most likely kick the breaker or reset switch. I had the reset replaced with a 20amp. which helped a little. I damaged it last week trying to avoid a deer, and the parts that need to be replaced cost more in total than a new compressor. I'll be buying the Emglo this time.
good machine...capable of handling all air nailers
Would RecommendSpent a month redoing the woodfloor... This unit put my handy work at ease...big difference this time comparing to last woodflooring I was working... with using regular hammer...pounding down nails like the ol' days. It was brutal. Now with this Hitachi pressor....two thumbs up. No issues!
Will not drive 3"nails
Would Not RecommendCompressor starts off ok, and then gradually leaves 3" nails further and further out of the boards. I end up hand driving to finish up. Very frustrating.
NEW WILL NOT KEEP UP TO AIR -FRAMER/STAPLE GUNS ONLY (one) good for finish nailer /trim work (junk)
Not up to Hitachi quality
Would Not RecommendWhen you think of Hitachi tools you think professional quality. Most of my nail guns are Hitachi and are some of the best out there. But this compressor is far from professional quality. I usually buy Quincy compressors but their newer line has some plastic parts in the compressed air system and are prone to break or leak. The all metal fittings is what attracted me to buy this unit. As compared to a Quincy of equal size and specs, the Quincy will go from zero pounds pressure to 125 lbs in about...
Bang for Your Buck
Would RecommendI don't use compressors on a daily basis, but I do use them half a dozen times a month. At this price point, the Hitachi rules. Is it the finest compressor money can buy? No, but in the $150-$200 range you can't touch it. Others complain about it's ability to drain, but if you read the manual, they tell you to drain the bottom tank first. If you do that, everything is fine. Like the others I'm not impressed with the plastic oil dipstick...it's too long and I don't think it's going to hold up for...
Better than it seems
Would RecommendI bought my compressor over the holiday weekend on sale and it came with a 2 1/2in finish nailer for free. I used it twice with no complaints. Never pass up on extra warranties too, they will help in the end if something comes up.
Junk.
Would Not RecommendGreat design, concept. I had it replaced twice, even with minimal use. There are better choices for less money.
tank drains are at 45 degree angle - PIA
Would RecommendThis thing is HEAVY (not a complaint) and the drains are cheap plastic AND at the tanks' 4:30 - not the 6:00 (bottom) where they should be! Stupid design, because it is virtually impossible to drain the moisture from the tanks even when you tilt the whole compressor. it is so heavy at one end, the tanks won't stay level while it's tilted - so the water runs to the end of the tanks (maybe that's where the drains should be)! Also, the tilting causes the rubber feet to bend so far I am sure they'll...
I was impressed
Would RecommendI own a 60 gallon Ingersoll Rand compressor and needed a smaller compressor for everyday use. I am glad that I didn't go by the other reviews or I would have never purchased this compressor. I took it out of the box, added the oil, and haven't had a problem ever since. The only thing that I don't like is the oil dipstick, its too big and made of plastic and mars an otherwise excellent compressor. They even angled the tank drains so their easier to use. Very quiet, easy to use, and buy it on sale...
Oiled Vs: Oil Less
Would RecommendFolks who know buy Oiled compressors. They are far quieter to operate and that is important when working in Condo's and apartment buildings. Oiled compressors last several times longer than oil less types. In reading through the reviews it appears there are several who do not understand checking the oil, nor making sure they use adequate power supplies and run the hose where you need it, not extension cords. I bought one of these for a crew of Electrical Maintenance Mechanics for cleaning contro...
